ça va!
Thanks everyone for your nice comments. I'm fine! Really! I felt so guilty after reading your comments. Surely there are people more deserving of sympathy than a whiny insomniac like me! I'm just tired and I think my internal clock is all messed up. No classes next week, so hopefully I can relax a bit and get back on schedule. I'm glad I'm not the only one who isn't in the Christmas spirit. I went to the grands magasins with Frog yesterday. It was a nightmare but we made it out in one piece. Let me confess the real cause of my stress and sleeplessness: We want to move. And not just to another apartment, to Canada. It's a really long story and I won't bore you with the details, but we have been waiting for a year now which means no changing apartments for something that we could actually fit our stuff in. No buying furniture. No planning vacations. No spending large sums of money and I can't really leave my job and I can't look for another one since we could be leaving any month now. Or not. We don't know. I've got my "cul entre deux chaises" (ass between two chairs) which is getting really old and I'm getting very impatient.
I made a decision on the kilt hose. Kind of. A temporary decision at least. I'm not going to make them for the wedding. There are just too many of them and the wedding is too soon. I am going to make one though. Because I want to. Plus, that way I can see how long it really takes and then some day when I'm bored or between projects, I'll make the second one and my cousin will love them. Or I'll wear them.

Great hose compromise. Super idea!
Canada would be good too. We considered leaving the states when Bush was re-elected (or elected for the first time, depending on how you look at it...). Keep us posted!

I think this might be a Paris thing. I havent been able to sleep straight through the night for the past 4 nights. No matter when I go to bed.
And that Christmas Mojo isnt on this side of town either. I am seriously trying but nope. not. there.... Will try going to Xmas Eve mass with friend (the agnostics :) at Notre Dame. Maybe that will help??
As for le cul entre deux chaises- I can fully sympathize. Living month to month and bouncing mon cul around this past year has made me value the stable life all the more. I hope to find one again some point soon. Otherwise what ever sense of sanity I ever had will be nothing but a semblance.
And I cant wait to see the kilt sock :)

Canada? Well, you'll be in good company with all the Democrats that have been flooding immigration there since the election! Hee hee. At least knitting will come in very handy, in order to stay warm. What a great adventure for newleyweds!

I literally had my "cul entre deux chaises" last night, after dinner at Flame's mom's house. I had slid over to the empty seat next to mine, but not all the way. I was sitting there for quite a while when I suddenly realized my odd perch. I found it quite pleasing, and stayed there as long as I could. But I digress.

De-lurking to say that six years ago I was also "cul entre deux chaises"...in January of that year DH applied for a job that would entail moving (only to a new state, not a new country), and he did not actually GET the job until October, at which point we had to find a new place and move within the month. It was the pits. I was really wanting to quit my job for months and I just couldn't. The good news is that it finally all worked out, and we are now settled and happy elsewhere, so hopefully your situation will resolve soon! Good luck.

Canada! Can I say how envious I am...truly!!?
All this will be over in less than a week and then we can get back to 'normal'...whatever that is.

Knitting the hose (what's the singular of hose?) because it's interesting and fun and you want to--way better idea.
It would be cool if you were on this continent--much easier to visit.

good plan on the hose. glad you are feeling better.

C'est froid aujourd'hui, trés froid. Tu es sure que tu veux déménager ici?
So much for French. Blah. And all I can say is -39°C with windchill...think, lady. Think hard. But if you should move here anyhow there are some knitters here who will welcome you with open arms. :-)

When people ask how long I'm staying in Paris I always say "ever year is our last year." It's really difficult to live thinking you could be moving in the next couple of months... you never really settle down and buy things you need. Hope everything resolves itself soon for you.

Canada?? Baha, I'm in Toronto! Bagel City? Oui, c'est tres, tres froid dans l'hiver. TRES froid.

Canada awaits your arrival. We aren't going anywhere. You know that city in Canada where you told me you're hoping to live? It gets really, really cold there in the winter. We're talking -40. That's Celsius AND Fahrenheit. Perhaps it's ok that "votre cul etes entre deux chaises", parce-que, si vous arrivez ici maintenant, you could potentially freeze votre cul off. Canada, it's all about the franglais, cherie! And your new city? It's all about the bagels. Seriously, though, you should ease your way into a Canadian winter. Start in the spring or the summer, enjoy the fall and then gradually learn to appreciate the true value of your knitted items and a pair of Stanfield's thermal long johns. I'll send you your first pair when you arrive. All the cold, er, cool kids are wearing them. They're incredibly stylish. And sex-ay!

I did move to Canada, before the election :-) And I can completely relate to the when-the-hell-is-this-going-to-happen thing because I had mon cul entre deux chaises aussi. Deux chaises separées par 600 kilometres. C'est pas facile, ça...
I'd say don't worry, but that's not possible for you to not worry about such a thing. So while you're worrying, be very, very gentle with yourselves. And ditto on doing one sock just because. No need to add stress on top of what you already are experiencing!
Hang in there, baby, Canada will wait for you :-)

Oh! Tell me how to pronounce "cul entre deux chaises"! That's *so* much better than being in limbo. Which, by the way, I hate that feeling, when you're going to move households and it's taking a loooong time and you can't PLAN anything. You have my sympathies.

ditto on the goodness of your hose plan...hope you're feeling a little better today. canada -- you'll be practically (back) in brooklyn with us! well, not really, but...

good plan for the socks...
Everyone I know wants to move to Canada. that's a very good idea. between that predident bush fiasco and the entertainment industry... I would love to be there for a long time. nancy

That's a good plan. I mean the hose plan. As for the other, I'm crossing my fingers. By the sounds of it, we might be on the same contintent for a bit. We're not due to move before at least spring. I'm thinking summer.
