Il neige

There was a guy here from the gas company and I was standing in the doorway to my family room.
Gas Guy: Oh la! points behind me
My first thought: A bird flew into the house! (which makes no sense since the windows are closed)
My second thought: Yeah... I know! The family room's a mess!
GG: La fenêtre!
Me: Oooh! Génial! Il neige!
GG: Quel désastre!

I love the first time it snows. It pretty much never snows in Paris, so I'm way too excited about this. And it was snowing big, beautiful snowflakes. Now it looks like it's trying to turn back into rain, but it was nice for the five minutes it lasted. Here's a photo from my window:

Notice the geraniums that still had flowers a week ago?

Wish I could show you some knitting. I have nothing I can show right now. Here are some buttons I waited in line for an hour to buy yesterday at La Droguerie. Sarah was kind enough to accompany me and wait patiently and chat with me. Now I've lost one of the buttons and if I don't find it I'll have to go wait in line for another hour tomorrow. Yippee.

update: The button was found between the slats of my wood floor and is now happily sewn onto a knitted thing. Thank goodness. No need to wait in line. Also, happy winter solstice!

*sigh* There is snow everywhere but here, we are having a mini heat wave on the East Coast it is currently 10°C. At midnight! They were playing golf on PEI today. On the shore of the Atlantic ocean. In Eastren Canada. In December.

Hey: sorry I haven't gotten to you, email is out of commission, only tha mac is on line at the moment.
Cryptically: Wow, yes. excellent. I get a 21 Club vibe, or something elegant and roaring 20's.
I also think Chelsea, or The Cloisters.( there's a famous engraving) bis bis, julia

Thanks for the snow! We received your snow from yesterday here in Frankfurt, Germany in the way of 3 inches (7.5cm).

My buttons and notions always seem to disappear too esp. when I need them. Mine always seem to go the way of the couch or my 3 year old!

Joyeux Noel et bonne annee!

happy first day of winter to you too. If we were neighbors or cube mates I would have given you a clementine (tangerine.) I love handing them out on Dec 21st.

I can't believe it snowed. Nice picture. Paris is so beautiful.. but even more so with the snow.

hi! I was searching on Google for yarn shops in Paris and I saw your posts on the knitter's reviews forum. I am going to learn to knit (a simple scarve) from a colleague who lent me her needles and am looking for a good yarn shop where I can buy nice yarn which are not too expensive. I looked at the websites of the shops you mentioned but I'm wondering if you have any personal favourites. Is Phildar expensive? Cos' I heard from some people that Le Bon Marche is quite expensive.
P.S: I saw the snow yesterday too! It was beautiful! But I was kinda sad cos' I didn't have my camera with me at work.

Did I tell you that the thing I am dreaming of knitting as soon as my yarn diet is over is a black cashmerino cardigan with all different vintage buttons.
Perhaps we are thinking some of the same thoughts?

Oh Kate, I'm just wiggling in jealousy--the Paris street, the snow, the pessimistic gas company man...although it looks like we might be getting snow today! Now, what did you put the buttons on, cherie?

Posted by: aubree at December 21, 2004 05:30 PM

Tres Magnific! Kate -- I love the view from your window but then again I loved seeing your neighborhood. Sounds like it's time to curl up with some knitting and Banania (I am sooo addicted to that stuff, so addicted and I blame you!)

Enjoy the snow! I hope it hangs around for a bit!

If you keep posting pictures of your view, I think your blog will be beautiful enough to stand among the nicest blogs on the internet. How lovely!

Glad to see you back. How fun to see the snow. What beautiful buttons! Hope that you find the missing one.

Posted by: Ashley at December 21, 2004 01:38 PM

Cool buttons!
Check the bottom of your purse...
The fridge...
The insides of your shoes...
Flashlight to the floor is always a good option...
Button discipline is a challenge :-)
I really love the ones that look sort of oval.
So, ya like snow, eh? you're thinking of moving to the right place, then :-)

I hope you found the lost button and don't have to stand in line for another hour.
Can't wait to see what you come up with for the kilt socks.
Have a great Christmas holiday with lots of knitting time and lots of sleep.
