Wrap up and looking at life
Julia did a Favorites of 2004 post back on December 18th. I wrote one and just never posted it and it disappeared, so here I am, rewriting it.
My list of notable stuff from 2004:
1. I discovered what a blog was and afer initially finding them boring and too egocentric, I started one. I guess this either means I have changed my opinion or I'm boring and egocentric. You be the judge.
2. I was (probably thanks to my blog) a pretty darned productive knitter this year.
3. Also thanks to my blog, I met some awesome ladies and even got to meet some of them.
4. I had 4 patterns published (1, 2, 3, 4) and some of the nicest rejection letters a gal could hope for.
5. I learned loads of stuff, but the most important thing I learned is that I don't need to worry about whether or not I knit "right" even though I am self-taught.
6. I finished my first big project in a long time (scroll all the way to the bottom) and found that it was easier than I thought to stick to it.
I'm not going to bother giving you blogging favorites. I'm not good at remembering specifics. But I do remember laughing a lot and being inspired a lot and being happy to be part of the knit blogging world.
So. I have this friend who I adore and every December she sits down and makes a list of things she wants to happen in the new year. The next December she gets out the old list and looks at what happened and and didn't and what she changed in her life and all. It's not resolutions because it's not done with that idea of kicking a bad habit. It's just life and looking at it. I'm doing it and I'll share the knitting part of it with you for a limited time and then I won't show it to you again until December 2005. If you'd like to do it too, feel free and tell me if you're sharing it.

Well I am impressed! Your patterns are terrific, especially the Clapotis, which I have on my 2005 To Knit List, although I haven't yet decided what yarn/what color to use. And your blog is INTERESTING! I have one, too, but I never know how interesting it is to others... Anyway, Happy and Healthy New Year!

I for one (along with I am sure about a million others) would like to thank you for Clapotis. You may be happy it got published - I am thrilled. It is one of my favorite things I have ever knitted. But I think in the end you may get me in trouble, as one of these days my DH is going to want me to take if off when I go to sleep.
May 2005 bring you a year of blessings and more wonderful patterns.

Great list idea! It's been quite a joy to read your blog, and to knit with your patterns. Have a great New Year!

That is a great idea!! I am writing a list right now! (and I don't think your blog is egocentric or boring! of course... I have a blog so maybe I am biased... or boring and egocentric myself? no!!!) ;)

The list is an excellent idea... though mine would require a bit of thought if there's to be anything more specific than "finish [insert any project from Craft Queue here]". Oh, and "un rdv avec Kate a Paris un de ces jours."
And finally: I enjoy your blog! Wouldn't be here if I didn't. ;) Thank you for sharing all of this with us.

Great idea! You are neither boring nor egocentric. We love your blog!

The list idea is great - I'm doing one in my personal journal. The last year was really a year from hell in many ways, and thinking about the next year is a very healing thing. Thank you.

I just sent a picture of my clapotis to your e-mail address. I hope you get it. Just want to let you know that it's one of my fav. all time knits and I can't wait to knit another. Jane

Hi!
First time reading your blog. Checked out your store too. You're fun to read, and, above all, I absolutely love your taste in colours!

I'm putting "meet Kate Gilbert" on my list ;-)
and if you can't knit for the joy of it, it's just another damned job...got enough of those, thanks...
Here's to another year of fabulousness from the needles of Madame Kate, and another year of inspiration, for you, and from you. You're da bombe, Kate. :-)

what a great idea - I am going to make one too!

I came to this site after just having read some rather cranky blogs where the knitting may be nice but the negativity, while cleverly written, is exhausting. Congratulations on your outlook and good luck with your year! (And thank you for clapotis, by the way! I'm still working on it...)

Great idea on the list - I was thinking of drawing up a budget for 2005, but I think now I'll do a list, too!

great list, kate! what a great idea. if i could finish some knitting around here, maybe i'd make a list of my own. right now it would just be 1. FINISH PROJECTS. :)

I'm really hoping that the "Knit something for Jenna" item on the list is referring to me. I'll take anything in Lorna's Laces, preferably in pink. And don't worry, I'll hold you to it in the upcoming year! :)

Kate, you have given us knitters so much this past year - a wonderful blog that is insightful and informative and more so, your great patterns (eg Clapotis) and good ideas that you don't even charge for!
May you have a wonderful Bonne Annee with your "Frog" and may the new year also bring wonderful things for you both.
(Hope to see the makings of a book from you....)

I'm totally with you. Especially on work that makes you happy, and putting your ideas down on paper. I'm hoping that writing down all my half-baked ideas will not only help me develop them, but will spawn more ideas (I'm thinking about stories to pitch to magazines, not patterns, but a similar process.) I'm feeling very hopeful about 2005 being a year of good change! (BTW, I never think your blog is whiny or self-involved.)

Love the list idea - I'm going to give mine some thought and try to post it by the end of the week.
