I'm a big liar

So remember a while back (on January 19th to be specific), I said that I wasn't going to start new projects until I finished up some old ones? And that I wasn't even allowed to order yarn for the new projects? I'm weak. I started the project and even worse, I ordered yarn. And I didn't finish the stuff that I said I would finish first. It's just, Kim (who you may have seen around in the comments) is coming over to France. And I kept reading good things about the Peruvian Highland at Elann, so I cracked and I ordered it and Kim is bringing it to me (along with Cheerios and big ziploc bags - she's the best). Now go ahead and yell at me for being weak while other people I know are actually refraining from buying yarn.

Here's the Varsity project team line-up:
Laura - pattern is almost completely written out and the one I'm knitting for Evann is 99.9 percent done.
Lise booties - I'm thinking about it a lot. I just haven't had time to sit down and do it.
Lise hat - Just needs the pompom attached and then is going in the mail this afternoon.
Sweater #1 (aka "the dandy sweater which must get a new name") - I have a really long swatch. I think I'm just going to keep it and use it as a scarf. I need to make a final decision about a couple things before I can start. I'm pretending that this thing is just going to fly off the needles! I can pretend, can't I?
Sweater #2 (for which I ordered the Peruvian Highland) - several sketches, several swatches. On hold until I see the actual yarn and pick out the complementary yarn which is going to be gooooorgeous. You'll see.
Anouk - Done and will be in the mail as soon as I've eaten lunch and gone to the post office. It's too big for Tom, but it'll fit the baby.

Here's the JV team, which is hanging out on the bench and are only going to be side projects:
Kilt hose - I've got to order the yarn. I'm actually going to order the yarn soon even if I don't knit them right away because I promised Martin I would fix the holes in the toes of his socks before I send them back to him.
Too much cotton afghan - I'm thinking about it.

and here's a very useful thing I did this weekend:

I call it the Pocky Walrus

Oh please tell me that you're going to publish the Laura pattern! Perhaps on Knitty? I would love to make a sweater named Laura. (and I had been wanting to do a fair isle sweater next anyway....)

hi kate,
I made my own Anouk this last weeks. If you want: take a look at my blog for pictures!
Thank you for designing and making the pattern!

Your Pocky Walrus is priceless! Gave me a good Friday laugh.

Don't feel guilty about new projects and new yarn, it makes you happy to look forward to new projects and ideas. I mean, without yarn how can you come up with something new, right?

P.S.: I just tagged you. You're It! Check my blog and you'll know why... ;-)

Greetings from Chapel Hill, NC. Can you believe I've never had Cheerios before? One of my coworkers was raving about them just this morning. Must give it a try.

Your website is very encouraging. Despite how much yarn you have (and your stash seems considerable,) I'm impressed by how much you finish. I'm relatively new to knitting and already feel stuck. I have patterns and yarn for at least five sweaters but am terrified to start any of them. Just can't seem to graduate mentally from baby sweaters done in stockinette. Spent a small fortune on wool from Black Abbey yarns to make my first "boyfriend" sweater. Still have the boyfriend despite missing numerous deadlines to knit this simple sampler sweater.

Anyway, enough complaining. I'm going to keep reading your blog and bask vicariously in your finished Anouks and loose fitting socks. I'll get there some day.

mmmm, the Peruvian Highland is yummy. no need for guilt as long as the sweater happens... eventually.

now, go eat Cheerios. you have another batch coming!

Oh, and that skein that I shouldn't have bought and of which I will have to get more? I started a Clapotis todday. Instead of three other things I should be finishing.

Here's a pattern for kilt hose for you to investigate:

I'm not going to yell at you for being weak. Not when I bought $154 worth of yarn today, LOL. I assume you are buying more yarn because you are creative, and you want to try new things!
BTW, who are these people who are actually refraining from buying yarn?

Thanks for sharing the Pocky picture! That cracked me up to no end!

I so wish I had a smuggler right now. Do you know how bad I want Reeses Peanutbutter cups or Redvines!! OR BAGELS, I just found out that St. Moret is like creamcheese people!!! GAH

No I am not going to yell at you, I am going to go yell at my mohair that is all I have left to knit instead, and admonish you to let me see that Peruvian yarn in person :)

who amongst your gentle readers would cast the first stone? none of us, sweet girl, are without sin on the too many projects and too much yarn fronts. enjoy!

I'm not sure which image I prefer: pocky walrus or the doll sitting on a STACK of yarn! Looks great, Kate, and I am totally excited to see what you think of Peruvian Highland. I also ordered knitting books this week - just as my school and internship load pick up - I can always flip through to see what I *wish* I was knitting, right? Yay for no yarn diets!

Yay Pocky. We call it Pocky Vampire. Men's Pocky is great. Of course, there is no "Women's Pocky".

As for yarn, I joined the YNBA and I think I lasted about two weeks. And then I went to the big 40% sale at my LYS and then bought yarn *the next week* (at 50% off but still).

Mwaaahahaaa - who needs progress about knitting when one gets a walrus picture??? And don't mind the yarn ordering, enjoy your purchase and what you are going to make from it.

Oh, nobody is going to yell at you. I'm certainly not, after waiting only about a week after announcing I shouldn't get any new yarn to get a skein of something of which I will have to get more. Stop guilting yourself. Didn't you also announce that you were going to have more fun with this knitting thing? If you didn't, pretend you did.
