Kickoff 2005!

Like I said, I needed some down time, then I would go into efficiency mode. Just five minutes ago, I didn't feel it. Then I looked at the never-ending list on my bookcase (see Oct 11) and I drew my priorities (since I wasn't in the mood to make a list - which is very unlike me) and now I am pumped full of desire to work and make progress. Kind of sick, no? Five minutes ago, I was tired. Now I'm ready to stay up working all night. Five minutes ago, I was feeling like I had a million things I had to and wanted to do and I would never get through it. Now I think I can get it all done in a week or two! Quick! Somebody slap me!

I know I should walk away from the kilt hose, but I just can't say no. I haven't said yes, either, but I'm thinking about it. I might even go as far as ordering yarn.

Priorities that I didn't draw:
  • redo my blog so it's not all blue and gray and stuff. I mean, this is needles on FIRE, not needles on ice, right?
  • reorganize yarn as I have become increasingly lazy with my organizational system
  • make more socks.

When I first saw your elf booties I sighed after the dizzy spell from desire passed, thinking the thoughts that go with sighing. No one I know is having babies-too old-too young. Then I saw they weren't available anyway so I thought "okay" and "hmmmm" and various other things. But Lo! Behold! my dearest Kirsten (a daughter in spirit from my first husband and his present wife)is having a baby. Yippee! This baby will be just the right age for elf booties by next winter so I beg, plead, and I am willing to cajole and abase myself for this pattern. I have never knitted anything to real completion before but I am now ready and willing and I pay promptly as well. Um...that's it. Did I mention grovel?

Kilt hose are a great idea; it must be that length of leg that allows you to come up with more involved arans or cable patterns. In which case, go to town with those. I have yet to make socks, but your Lorna's Laces are wonderful.

Thanks for the advice on patterns, Kate. Happy new year!

I am excited to see how the kilt socks turn out.

    Happy New Year Kate!

Can't wait to see what new and interesting things you'll be making in 2005.

Happy New Year Kate! Oooh, I wish I could knit socks, but I seem to suffer from SSS (second sock syndrome, means I can finish one, but then I get bored and have to knit something else and never seem to get back to make the mate to the pair!) Busy contemplating what yarn to use for my Clapotis -- such a beautiful, beautiful pattern! I have lots of Silk Garden around here somewhere... how many skeins of that would I need?

Nice picture list! I can't wait to see the finished projects. I hope your eye is feeling better, that sounded just awful!

Make more socks? Yeah baby! I think 2005 is generally going to be the year of the sock. I'm almost wanting to volunteer for the kilt hose.

Okay, I thought I posted a comment but it didn't happen. If it happens later and it's incoherent, sorry...anyway, I'm heading into a sock frenzy too. They look finishable. And I love your list. It is still a list. It's just the kind of list a graphic designer would make. So no worries, darling, you have not lost your list-making obsession ;-)

I hope I don't injure myself with a dpn...I can't even do the laundry without hurting myself. Last year you do the cornea, this year I do the kidney. Collision with husband while folding. Table corner. Not pretty. Now he'll never help me fold again. At least socks are easy to fold...

Make the kilt hose! Are you going to do the ones from "Folk Socks?" I love those... I'm about to begin the Mamluke Socks from that book- I just ordered the yarn. Don't walk away- they are beautiful, and cozy.

looks to be a good knittish year. the kilt hose do seem like a lot of work, but i'm looking forward to seeing them.

...and i'm glad your eyes have made it through the start of the year intact!

i'm with you on the kilt hose. i love the idea. a few months back i came across an old book of kilt hose patterns and inadvertently put it down while browsing the store. there's just something about them that keeps drawing me in, too.

wow, still thinking about those darn socks, eh? i don't know what it is but i find knitters have a hard time saying no. after all the scarves i knit for a friend to give as xmas presents i said i'd never knit for anyone else (even if paid) again. and then, lo and behold, i was at a party yesterday and someone asked and i said, "we'll talk about it"--it was definitely the margaritas talking!
