Did I ever tell you I am a knitter?

Here's the proof
Someone with a very funny email address was kind enough to point out a little mistake in my shining star pattern so I figured it was easier to knit it to check rather than trusting that I know what I'm talking about. So I made what you see above. The hat's not done yet, but I found the mistake. This is the child's size. I'm trying to figure out who I even know that has children. 99% of my friends with kids have babies or toddlers (that's why there are so many kids things on my site - don't worry, I have adult ideas too. I just have no time to knit them up). And most of the children I know and like enough to give a handknit hat to are girls who wouldn't be caught dead in anything that's not purple or pink, so this bright green thing would just be out of the question. It's knit in morehouse merino. I went a bit berzerk there a few summers ago when I visited their shop. Since I didn't have any particular projects I was buying the yarn for, I walked out with one skein each of twelve different colors. And I've never found a way of getting them to work together so I'm slowly working my way through them by making hats. I do however have a bunch of one colorway of a variegated yarn that I'm terrified to use. I'm afraid it looks better as a ball of yarn than knit up. And I don't know what to do with it. It's supposed to be a sweater for me. Oh well. I've had it since before I had even met my husband (when I bought it I was in the process of knitting a gorgeous scarf for the guy that would soon be my ex). If it's been hanging around for over 5 years, it can probably wait a little longer to become a nice sweater.

That is a lovely hat...I'm trying to remember if I was an obstinate pinkandpurple little girl...I do remember that my mother dressed me rather psychedelically as a small child. Mini dresses in crazy hot-colored patterns and wild tights. Colors very much like that brilliant colorway of reds and oranges. yum.

Love the star pattern. Very cute.

Hmmm.... I don't know anybody with a funny email address. I'm sure your hat will find a home on a sweet little head. Girls wear green too ya know. And all that yarn scares you? It would worry me too - my fear is always that I will waste (or wear out) the yarn making it into something I absolutely hate.

gorgeous yarn. i'm sure it will look gorgeous when knit up...what about something short and jackety or dressish? anyway, it'll keep until you're ready. that green is beautiful -- maybe you can tempt one of the girls with a little bit of pink trim?

That is really great yarn! I'm sure you will think up something great that will make it look nice, even if it does take another 5 years. I am so jealous, I really need to get to the big city for some nice yarn!!

That hat is beautiful! I think I'm addicted to making hats!

My son would love that, but his head is already almost adult size - he's only almost 11! I'm making him socks and knew his foot was the same length as mine, assumed his ankle was 8" like mine - measured last night and his ankle is 9"!! He's going to be like his dad, with Norwegian legs like trees.
I've been in love with green lately, too. I keep thinking about those adorable shoes you caved in for a while back.
How is the Lise booties Pattern coming?

I've got a kid and she wears a green coat ;-)
Thanks for putting a little yarn porn on the site, by the way...I like to live vicariously through other people's stashes because mine seems so boring at the moment. That stuff is gorgeous.

Pretty pretty yarn! So pretty. I know what you mean, though. If you knit it up it may disappoint you. Oh, how sad. That has happened to me before.
But we will think positively!

Love the little hat pattern. And that red yarn...you must find a sweater to make from it soon!

Yum, that yarn is pretty pretty pretty. And the hat looks marvelous! I'm sure you will find a happy recipient.

Love the sweater yarn - I know you'll design something beautiful for it, and it will look fantastic! It seems like the variegation is subtle enough that it won't be too shocking when you knit it up, which is always my fear with multis.

So cute! I bet my son (he's 5) would wear a hat like that one. I just made my daughter a berry tart hat. I think the variegated yarn might make a nice Rosedale or Rosedale United from Knitty, if you're so inclined. Oh, and I just finished my scarf-sized Clapotis yesterday - need to block it before I can show it off (made from Classic Elite Flash). And it's almost Anouk weather again!
