Liar, liar, swatch on fire

I started a sweater the other day with the full knowledge that I had no idea what I was doing and that I would probably have to rip and start over. And that's what I'm going to have to do. Either my gauge swatch lied or I miscounted when I cast on because it's 3 inches too wide. I haven't figured out which it is because at first glance it doesn't seem to be either... but it has to be one of them. Anyway, here's a photo of the fabric that my new yarn makes.

it's pinker than I thought it would be.

and here's a close-up of the yarn.

Am thunderstruck. Had no idea there were knitting blogs. I speak your language. How nice.
By the way, some yarns spread. Its all in how they are spun. I know this thing because I spin yarn. I think your yarn was just so soft it went all wide on you.

Ooooh! I'm loving how that new yarn knits up! And I'm glad to see the Lise booties on your WIP list...I've got some Lise hats that need matching shoes. :)

Is it cotton? I can't tell from the photo. Whenever I use 100% cotton I grip it quite tightly when working the swatch because my fingers aren't used to the lack of resiliancy. Then once I get going a bit on the sweater I relax and bang-o - bizzare mid-project gauge shift. Never fails.

Just to add to the sentiments of the hordes: Love the new site graphics and colours!

Well, so, that's a second swatch...a very BIG second swatch...sorry to hear you have to rip it :-(

I always find that when a variegated yarn has any pink in it at all, I notice the pink first above all the other colours. But that's pretty much because my brain has a permanently embedded pink detector which tells me to run in the other direction if anything trips it. As you can imagine, this tendency of mine, among other challenges, makes having a six-year-old daughter a horizon-expanding experience ;-)

You did a firey good job fixin' up this place. I love the yarn your using for the sweater...and I hate when swatches lie.

The site looks great and I love the color of the yarn. Very spring-y.

Hi! I'm so glad you went back for the yarn; I think it looks lovely, pinky or not (it's a far cry from poopy, so that's a good thing! :) )

And hurrah! So glad you're back online. Hopefully it didn't have to come to fisticuffs with customer service. ;)

I love the new design. And I love the yarn colors. I don't think itlooks too pink-y. Actually, it could have more pink for my taste.

Look at you, all fire-y again! Yay. And, pink and orange, yum, my favorite color combo. It helps me think spring.
