Proof and a review
For your pleasure, here is some more proof that I am an idiot and/or in dire need of sleep and/or a vacation.

Want something more articulate? The ones on the left can hang off stitches or be put on the needle. They're flexible. They rock. The ones on the right break. You can hang them off stitches, but they'll turn around and maybe fall out depending on the thickness of your yarn. Or they'll magically get caught on both your stitches and your needle making a huge mess. They seem to have no particular advantage over paper clips.

The timing of your review is perfect. I've been knitting Clapotis, slipping round rings and/or closed safety pins between each group of stitches, as markers. I complained to a friend that slipping the markers broke the pattern of my knitting. She gave me a package of the markers that "rule." I've been clipping them to the stitches and only moving them up when I complete each repeat (except at each end, where I still use a ring - I like something on the needle to stop me before I go past the last full repeat). You're right - they're perfect - and very cute! And, please add me to the innumerable fans of Clapotis. I'm using Lion and Lamb and really loving the result.

I love those stitch markers!! I even use mine to as stitch holders for small amounts of stitches (like at the top of raglans)and they are GREAT for pinning buttons to button bands to check button and buttonhole placement!
I just discovered they are now making them in jumbo size for up to size 19 needles too!!
If you can't find them in France I can send some if you like :)
PS - Things could be worse, I once almost brushed my teeth with some Mycelex I had sitting on my bathoom counter!!

Here's another vote for the stitch markers on the left. They ROCK. It's nice when you buy something so incredibly cheap and really, really get your money's worth.

OOO Cheesecake sounds good. If I had any energy, I'd make one. So sorry about the sweater~

There are some things you *just* have to do. So make that cheesecake. Add caramel liberally.
And I love your little review!

hey! sorry you had to rip out all 5,000 of those stitches, but i can see it was a sad occassion since you actually took the time to figure out how many there were!! i almost tricked myself into ripping out half the pillow i'm working on, but sneaky me, i found a way to get around it. (muahaha, thank god there's such thing as picking up stitches and adding more!)
will you send me some cheesecake? :P
PS -- i find myself spelling things wrong in english too since i'm taking french. i do the same thing as you, hehe

I also vote for the cheesecake - then you can sleep it off and feel much "butter". See you're not the only one doing it!

The cheesecake sounds pretty good. I've been feeling like baking recently... is it that the kitchen warms up when the stove is on???

CHEESECAKE! CHEESECAKE!! CHEESECAKE!!!
Aren't most sweet/savory flavors knitter's muses?

Skip the cheesecake, grab a brandy, and head to bed. You need some sleep, sweetie!

Cheesecake, indeed, though I vote for pumpkin cheesecake. Need me to send over some canned pumpkin?

I love those locking markers. I even use them to "pin" together sweater parts to quickly try it on. They are kind of bulky when you're using a fine yarn though.

mmm, cheesecake.
anyway, I have some of those drooly markers, but I can't really complain as they're the only markers I've ever had. I've never even seen any other types of them here. Hmm.

I'm using Goody rubber bands for little people with extremely fine hair. They DO fly across the room, regularly. I find them everywhere. It's worse than when I was finding dessicated Cheerios in every corner of every room my child had been in...
I'd love some pretty stitch markers but I'd never get any knitting done if I spent time beading stitch markers. Still, ones that work better than these rubber thingies would be good...

I say cheesecake.
You are so funny. Way to brighten my day. ;-)

Argh? Can you bake a chocolate cheesecake? Or just have some nutella on good bread? That would be a quick fix. :)
So, what brand are the ones on the left? Or, what particular kind of stitch marker...us newbie novices want to know!
Posted by: sue at March 1, 2005 02:58 PM
argh! that sucks. i just wrote an entry today talking about a sweater with fit problems caused by not trusting my intuition. why do we all do that?
btw, my favorite markers of all time are the rubber ones. they stretch a bit so they don't do that fling across the room if you touch them the wrong way.

but at least you are entertaining and can listen to the ravings of a lunatic over here :)
and you made me laugh with the meat you bit, I needed it so THANKS
