I've got big balls

Get your mind out of the gutter.
and please pretend you don't see my hair sticking up, the toothpaste that is still on the mirror and that I'm wearing my sweater inside out.
This is the hugest ball of yarn I've ever seen. It's Lorna's Laces Fisherman. It comes in 500 yard hanks. I thank the yarn goddess for my ball winder and Dad for my swift because I've got a bunch of these to ball and knit. Sorry. Can't tell you what I'm making. You'll see eventually.
I have turned a few people into knitters recently. Blossom is casting on and knitting like a pro. My old roommate emailed me showing a hat she had made. I don't know that I had anything to do with it, but I did knit a lot when I lived with her and she said, "Now I know why you love it so much. I am addicted." so I'm going to take some credit for it anyway. And an old friend emailed me yesterday saying that she was going right after work to buy some yarn and needles. I'm not sure I had anything much to do with that either since I talked to her on Monday for the first time in about 10 years but I did tell her a good LYS to go to. I'll just consider myself the needle that broke the non-knitter's back.

Just a question - when you come across cute yarn that is on sale, how do you decide how much to buy? I'm always finding myself with cute yarn in my stash, but not enough to make anything! Is there some sort of minimum yardage that you try to get, or is there some other guideline you could suggest?

Je te vois quand même... ;-)
My kid could use that thing as a chair.

You know, my dear, if you would stop making us pay attention to the not so perfect parts in your picture we might not even notice. On the other hand: makes me feel way better about the state my bathroom is in right now. Talking about toothpaste spots, ha. And when I had short hair I made it stand up on purpose. So much for that.
I am loving big balls, of yarn particularly - less weaving in of ends.

I'm anxiuos to hear a review and how you like this yarn. I've been thinking about buying some. BTW~ your haircut is really cute...I really want to get mine done like that...but currently my face is too fat. Another thing to do when the weight comes off! wendy

That is one mega ball! I only have one experience with Lorna's Laces (thanks to your pattern, actually), so I am looking forward to seeing what that huge hank becomes. I think knitting is contagious - in the past 2 years, I have gotten my MIL, two med school friends, and another friend addicted (and that doesn't count the people I have taught to knit who somehow (?) did not become addicted. It's such a great pasttime to share!

My husband calls me the Johnny Appleseed of knitting. I'd be more than happy to share the title with you.
PS: Blossom cast on and was knitting beautifully even stitches right away. She must have absorbed it from you by osmosis when you were still in town
