just don't feel like it
I don't feel like knitting. Instead, I'm contemplating the crumbs trapped in my keyboard that I can see only because my chair is much lower than usual and the sun is hitting my keyboard just perfectly to make the proof of my slobbiness glitter.
And because I somehow feel that you deserve an explanation for the lack of knitting content:
1) Last week sucked. I had to work a lot.
2) My cousin is here. I'm not complaining. I adore him and his girlfriend but I'm playing tour guide instead of spending hours fondling yarn like I usually do.
3) I have a nasty contact allergy on my hand which was either caused by yarn or worsened by it. Not only does it make people cringe when they see my cracked, swollen pinky. It makes it hurt a lot to knit English style which is the way I knit the most evenly and quickest. I've tried every cream known to man and I've been to the dermatologist and it's better, just not better enough to wrap wool around. I might have to resort to continental until I have 2 grody pinkies.
4) I'm posessed. Remember how I used to complain about never sleeping and not being able to sleep? I don't have that problem anymore. Naps are my friends.
5) Anything I'm working on can't be shown to you anyhow.
This is not at all a complaint or a call for sympathy or anything. I just thought I'd tell you what was up since I've been unusually quiet.

I so sympathize with the sore fingers. This is going to sound funny, but if you can find it. Get some Beaudreaux's Butt Paste. Yes it is a diaper cream, but It got rid of a nasty allerigic reaction that I had on my arms. I found it at the pharmacy. I wish you luck.

Tsk, tsk. Sorry I'm late, but here's another kisskiss on the poor finger. So there.
I'm happy to hear that you discovered the joy of naps. And I do hope that you haven't developed an allergy to wool!

Dear ms. Kate - I am napping way too much too! When you can't sleep often neither can I. How weird is that connection! I will try to wake up for you. ;-)

I know what you mean about not feeling like knitting. I went through that for a while and then the desire came back. The 'break' can be good. The allergy on your hands sounds like it could be something I had a couple of years ago. It is a form of eczema (after much denial and going to two different dermatologists). It was due to my skin getting dried out washing them with soap and water so often at work. I had blisters on my fingers which was painful. I now use 'Cetaphil', a hand cleanser that doesn't require water. I know, it sounds weird but it works. Apparently water can really dry out the skin. They also make a good lotion. Don't use latex gloves as causes the skin to sweat which aggravates this condition. Sorry for the long description but hope this helps. Also I just made a bunny from your pattern and love it. Thanks for the darling bunny!

Ouch about the pinkies! I hope the healing is fast. But honestly, if you don't feel like knitting, just take as long a time out as you like. I'm sure it won't be too long before you're psyched up again to pick those needles up again -- and it'll be more fun then!
And good luck with the secret projects!

Ouuuuuch. Vaseline or Bag Balm with a glove over top might work. Bag Balm is even better than Vaseline...it smells awful but I can honestly say it works for friction to the crotch on 350-mile bicycle rides, where Vaseline just creates a sticky mess. So it might work for your finger too. Um, yes, it does indeed feel really disgusting sticking that stuff in your shorts, but that's wayyy better than having Saddle Seat. Try cutting a finger off a latex glove and put that over the sore spot and the whatever-cream-you-choose. Let me know if you want me to send you some...
bisoux et bonne sieste...

Napping, knitting things you can't show us...hmmm.
Might there be
a little bebe
on the way?
FYI: The smallest size of Shining Star knit with sport weight yarn on a size 5 makes a perfect newborn cap.

Hi,
I knit English and don't wrap - tension is fine. We knitted your bunny pattern and named him Claude!
Hope your finger gets better - as I miss seeing your knitting and reading your blog!

I never wrap either, like Anna. Never had a tension problem. But I can relate to sore fingers at the moment.
I am more concerned about the crumbs in your keyboard (although you should see mine...) and the toothpaste on your mirror......

no sure about france - but here in the pharmacies i can go and buy latex gloves(or non latex if you are allergic) one pair at a time for like 50cents?
you could try that on your finger - just cut off most the tops of the other finger so it's not as annoying
i use this trick when i make meatballs cause i get tired of squishing the stuff with my hands and then having to dig it out from under my fingernails before i can finish cooking. but it would also keep the wool off you pinky -
try some vasaline(under the glove as well?) - my father had bad dermatitis for yrs and said that was the only thing that worked for him - better than the prescription from the doctor.
worth a try i guess - sorry about your week

Sorry you're having a sucky time.
I just met a woman this weekend who also has contact dermatitis on her hand and her doctor thought it might be caused by wool. I thought that was hooey because she's been knitting and spinning for a long time and it never gave her a problem before. Maybe I was wrong.

Poor finger! I hope it gets better soon.
Just wanted to let you know that I made Gifted mittens to match my Shining Star hat and I LOVE them. I feel very glam in the matching outfit. And, since the weather people are calling for SNOW tonight, I'll get to wear them!

Sleep sweet. Glad to see you're busy, but hoping for a healed hand soon. Knitty's out!

Hope your finger is better soon, nothing like an injury stopping the knitting being frustrating.
I knit English and don't wrap the yarn around my fingers at all, as long as you give it a good tug each stitch the tension stays even. Never could get the hand of the wrapping thing, just ended up cutting off the circulation in my fingers...
Enjoy your napping and tour guiding!
