Swatch...Frawtch? Clawtch?

Anybody know a word that rhymes with swatch? The reason I ask is I make up songs on the spot and sing. I do this a lot, but not for just anyone. It's usually Frog or Blossom who get to hear them. The other night I was finishing up some swatches for... stuff (I refrain from speaking about "stuff" because I'm convinced that it will bring me bad luck and said "stuff" will be rejected and I will be told to go knit toilet paper covers) and I was singing a song about being done with my swatch. And the only words I could think of were watch or Sasquatch. Frog later suggested crotch, but I think that would depend on your accent and for me it's close, but I'm not sure it rhymes 100%, never mind the difficulty of incorporating "crotch" into a song about knit swatches... actually, I probably could because my songs have nothing to do with logic and everything to do with n'importe quoi. Any brilliant ideas you have for words for my swatch song would be greatly appreciated by Frog since he complained that last night's song only consisted of about 8 words that were used 20 times each. It wasn't my best effort.
So, despite my fear of cursing myself by talking about "stuff" and showing you "stuff", I've posted a photo of "stuff." Or at least little pieces of it. If you ever get to see the "stuff" will depend on the knitting gods, aka editors. And in one case, I'll probably just publish the pattern myself if nobody else wants to because I believe in it. That's what I did with Elizabeth. So the first swatch is... a swatch and it has a button and ribs. You couldn't have figured that out without me, right? I knit it in Calmer, which I like a lot, but I only realized today that I knit the darned thing on two different sized needles. Maybe I could have said that in my song. What rhymes with needle? The second thing is... a thing and I used this Phildar yarn that was actually pretty soft even though it's 49% acrylic, which to me, usually screams SQUEAKY! And the third thing is a mini thing. Every time I had touched Noro Kureyon, I had said, "yuck." But I really wanted a yarn with a color change like Kureyon, so I bit the bullet, paid the 9.15€ and bought the stupid stuff. It really wasn't as yuck as I had thought. Anyway, the "stuff" is sent and now I have three quarters of a ball of Kureyon, as well as some Rowan All Seasons Cotton to throw into my stash. My collection of random single balls is getting ridiculous. I guess I could return the ball that I didn't end up using, but that would involve going all the way to the 7th arrondissement which would cost me over 2€ in metro tickets and at least a half hour of stress waiting in line and explaining to unpleasant women why I would want to return the stupid ball. I think I'll just keep it.
PS Why can I never find the yarn I want in the color I want? Either I find a yarn I like in colors that I think are blah, or I find a color I like in yarn I think is ick.

Hmmm, the only thing that comes to mind, that hasn't been mentioned is; kolaches (http://www.rtis.com/reg/caldwell/ent/recipes.htm), but it only rhymes with the plural. Mmmm, now I'm hungry.

you are probably too young to remember the word clatch as in coffee clatch but how about scotch as in single malt...? great fun to sing your own songs!

mmm, let's think about rhymes (i am a french speaker, so it is not so easy to thing about american words)
catch (no one says it, why ?)
cache cache (hide and see in french)
patch (like patchwork)

Hi! I just came across your "petit chou" at knitty.com. Thank you so much for creating such a cool pattern! After my first year in France (Tours) I find that all that red wine and yummy cheese have actually helped me drop two sizes and I need a new swimuit, but am afraid to buy one in a French shop in case I need to return it. :) My husband is happy to see that I've finally found something to knit that he approves of!
Rhyming words - I sing a lot to my cat, and I've found out that in a pinch adding "atoni" to the end of any normal word, makes a whole Italian-esque pasta meal song out if it. Maybe it's cheating? The cat likes it.

"Swatch ya" rhymes with 'gotcha' and 'caught ya'.
I do not seek perfection in rhymes, of course. I think they are close enough.
And then there is always 'bee-yotch'.
Lovely swatches. Coming soon to a publication near me, I hope. xoxo Kay

Hahaha. My first thought was "crotch" too. Good for Frog! ;-)

I think most have already been taken, but you can always check out a rhyming dictionary... like www.rhymezone.com

Touch?
All those random balls make me think Fair Isle, although Clementine made the rather nice suggestion of cubes... Or how about a building blocks blankie?

Someone's already got in with this one, but how could you go past SCOTCH ?!!
I'd suggest putting all the random balls to use (and possibly even left-over swatches) as knitted and stuffed cube baby blocks (go on, you KNOW you want to get obsessed with knitting knit baby toys..) I'm sure I've seen this idea in a debbie bliss book or something.

i sing made up songs all. day. long. swatch -- the first thing i thought of was "bee-yotch". then emeril. i disappoint myself, really. then i starting googling rhyming dictionaries and that was kind of fun. troche, a way of pronouncing klatsch, splotch, and debauch all came up.
i love those colours you've got there. looking forward to the big reveal...

how about "hotch-potch", as in "it's a real hotch-potch of different colours and materials"...?!!! would love to see the final lyrics!

botch (as in botch it up); notch; gotch-a; and I think crotch does rhyme (by my accent at least); have fun! PS -- Noro, when soaked in hair conditioner, really softens up. And if you throw it in the dryer for a few minutes, it really blooms.

watch
botch
scotch
notch
does that help? grin...

You could use a little refresher in Dr. Seuss, methinks...clearly you have not heard of the beewatchwatchers...otherwise you would have said, "what can I show you on my blog? Not mawtch" ;-)))
They're really pretty for just being swatches, though :-)

I love making up songs. I used to do song parodies when I was a kid, way before anyone ever heard of Weird Al. I coulda been Weird El!
Anyway...what rhymes with crotch that hasn't been mentioned yet?
Beeyotch (sorry!) Scotch (although you'd botch your swatch with too much scotch!), Tchotchkes (sorta rhymes with swatches)
That's it for me.
Have a great weekend!

what about botch...as in i botched that up! and i'm with you on the yarn/color loophole. i suffer from the same disease.

Oh the suspense is killing me! Luckily I have about seven projects going right now, so I can hold off on my next Gilbert pattern - but really, I can't wait! Hope you're doing well - glad to see so much progress, chickie.

Swatch... how about notch or blotch? Needle - try beatle or tweedle.
I too have trouble finding the perfect yarn, the shops never seem to have exactly what's in my imagination.

It doesn't have to rhyme! Make it an atonal existentialist, Da Da-esque kind of improv piece. I do that all the time. When I run out of rhymes.
Ah, you reminded me how it is positively frowned upon in Europe to return things. Haha. Not fun. Can't help you with the yarn question - you want me to send you some KoolAid?
Posted by: valentina at May 20, 2005 09:29 AM
well if you really want to return the thing give me the reciept and the ball and I will do it for you :) I live over here anyways!

Swatch... hmmm... "botch" sort of rhymes, but include a "don't" in front. ;) (Oops... just read the other comments... someone got "botch" already.) Needle is easier... wheedle!

I'm not much for rhyming with swatch. I sing to my son a lot and there's not enough that rhymes with baby, in my opinion. If you like Noro-esque yarns you should try some Granbia. It's color changing like Noro but super soft. I have no idea where to get it in the US (other than one shop in Colorado and I just moved away from there), much less in France, but it's sure a neat yarn. Wow, I'm sure not helpful tonight, now am I? Maybe I should just get back to the laundry...

I love making up silly songs with my partner, especially when we are driving round in the car.
The only word I can think of to go with swatch is botch, and it don't look like you've done that with your swatches. I do hope they get accepted; I'm very curious to see what they are!
