hot dates

It was exactly four years ago today that I arrived in France to live here. Before the plane landed, I started to worry that I might not even recognize Frog since we hadn't seen each other in over four months. We recognized each other, but were so in lala land that he got us completely lost trying to come back into Paris.

Yesterday I worked the last day of my "real job".

Two days ago, Frog and I had dinner with a friend to say goodbye before we leave. This was the first person we said goodbye to. It won't be the last. What a bummer.

In about a week, it will have been 5 years since I set foot in France for the very first time and met Frog the same day. We didn't really think so much of each other at the time.

In a few days, Frog will be thirty.

In five weeks, we will be moving.

A note to those of you who have emailed me recently: I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry. Please don't think I am ignoring you or snubbing you. That's not my intention. I'm just over-loaded. I run around like a crazy lady all day, then, as soon as I sit down in the evening, I fall asleep. I just wish my brain could send emails without the use of a computer or my hands to type them. I promise I'll get back to you soon. Please be patient. I have accounts to close, a car to sell, movers to hire, a birthing center to find, etc. etc. etc. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

A note to those of you who are lovely enough to leave me comments: Thank you. Seriously, thank you. I love reading them. I'm sorry I haven't been answering them. I mean to. I think about it. I want to. Someday I will start answering them again.

I found your blog whilst I was googling the "Llama going to the dentist" song from Sesame Street for my blog, and for some reason, I spent the rest of my day reading all your posts.

And now I have some internal need to go knit you some baby booties, and I don't know why.

Congrats on the impending babe! :)

You're moving! I'm so out of it, I didn't know and I thought I was reading your blog regularly. :)

Good luck with the move and finding a birthing center!

When you get to Canada you'll look back and wonder how you got there. Don't worry. It'll all come together and we'll beat up anybody that's making you feel bad about not sending them an email! (((Hugs))) Take care and get all the sleep that you can.

You are very kind to think of your readers - but me (like others) want you to take care of yourself and the wee one. The three of you are incredibly busy right now so take care. And happy anniversary of sorts.

Finally got the IK - that's so cool your sweater!

Oh, honey. A million gazillion hugs. I know what that feels like, overwhelmed by the big move and the big life changes...though I wasn't pregnant at the time. Just trying to corral a slightly nervous four year old...

I'm chained to Mission Control at the moment, so I'm right at the other end of the send button. Bisoux and let me know what I can do on this end for you.

Holy shmoly, dude, in five weeks I can actually hug you BECAUSE I CAN and because, duh, people need hugs...YAY :-)

Wow, what a big year for you -- move, baby, etc. Goodness, it takes far, far less life stress to shut down my blogging and emailing.

Take care of yourself and knit when you want, post when you want and email in your head, but don't feel guilty. It's a good time to stay focused on your close friends and family since there is so much going on. Us blog stalkers, we'll be here cheering you on, but we don't require much in the way of care and feeding. Just remember to post a pic of the baby after she's born!

I am getting awfully jealous of those Canadians -- in addition to universal healthcare and a dearth of raving lunatic presidents, they get Kate Gilbert too!

Posted by: Anne at July 13, 2005 04:12 PM

You take care of yourself -- you and Frog and baby -- and all you have to do and just never mind about all of us in the peanut gallery, okay? We're just here when you need us -- to cheer you on, send words of encouragement, and stuff like that.

Good luck with the move. Label your boxes clearly. Last time I moved, I went the anal retentive extra mile and wrote more or less what was in the boxes: kitchen - utensils, kitchen - pots and pans, kitchen - china, rather than just kitchen, kitchen, kitchen meaning you have to unpack 10 boxes to find a damn spoon. It took maybe half an hour of total extra packing time and saved me hours on the other end.

And 40 gets even better than 30!

Hello!

I'm new, so let me introduce myself...57 in Va, new knitter, oldish to crochet, two cats, one dh, and other than needle work...I love gardening, nature, living simply and driving my "stuffy" neighbors nuts.

Good luck with the move. It can be such a trauma, but fun at the same moment. I wish you well. And remember, nothing has to be perfect.

And one last thing, which has caused me to post this. I have contact dermatitis and eczema also..had it all my life...dry, swelling, cracking etc. on feet, hands and face. One thing that has really helped me a lot is A & D ointment, aka, diaper rash ointment. I keep some on my hands all day and it really helps and I can get back to my knitting. And no, it does not stain the yarn. It beats taking the steroids...

It's amazing how time changes - looking backward it is so compressed, whilst looking forward it's neverending and oh so vast (at least when one is on the not-yet-there side of 30). I wish you many more happy years with your Frog - I'm coming up to 34 years with mine. Moving an ocean away is difficult but you'll get through it just like you knit - one stitch at a time. With the advances in communication technologies you will keep close to your friends in Europe as easily as you will your new friends - the only things missing will be going to dinner together and sharing hugs. But Frog can/will be an excellent source for surrogate hugs :)
Be of good cheer, Kate. It will all come together.
-Leslie

Moving can be so stressful! It's sad to say goodbye, but exciting when you can start a fresh new life in a new place. I hope you can say all your goodbyes and enjoy your last days in France.

Posted by: molly at July 13, 2005 09:57 AM

30, oh my! Such a big number.

I remember awhile back, we celebrated someone's 30th bday in a restaurant, and everyone was discussing when they will turn thirty. However, I happened to be (as usual) the youngest in the group... when I got to me, I made sure to point out to David that when I turn thirty, he will be mighty, mightly close to forty! Muhahaha.

Anyway, with everything that is going on, I would expect your head to spin a bit. However, if you start spewing pea soup, that is when one needs to worry.
