things I have done recently
Knit the heel of my koigu sock while chatting with "Tata Lisette" and "Tata Monique" at a family function.

Avoided eating les ris de veau at said meal (baby cow thyroid glands - gag).
Saw a cloud that looked just like the head of Homer Simpson. Frog saw one that he said looked like Santa Claus. No matter how hard I looked, I just didn't see it.
Played poker, which is now, officially, the only card game I ever want to play again and I may even give up my life of knitting to become a professional gambler. Babies like casinos, no?
Ate profiteroles.
Watched a thunderstorm.
Slept the whole way home from Burgundy.
Got told that I am fat for being five months pregnant. It's not true (I don't think) and I don't care even if it is.
Saw a praying mantis in my in-laws' hall.

Watched the Tour de France and made silly jokes with Frog. btw, is it just me or is there always some shirtless idiot running down the road with an American flag around his neck threatening to knock over a cyclist?! I think I saw at least four of them in the two hours of the race that I watched. I mean, sure, be excited. Cheer, fine. But I think they should invent a slapping machine that will roll down the street in front of the cyclists getting all the crazies out of the way so they can actually race and nobody gets hit.
Boring moving stuff.
That's about it. I hope you all are well! Thanks for the encouragement. I actually mananged to get a big chunk of emails answered (but still no comments).

Comments
IGNORE the comments on your "baby fat". I saw the picture of you in a later post. I did not think you could possibly be even 5 months pregnant. I've gotten the same comment while pregnant in France. These are women who think you shouldn't gain more than 5 kilos in a whole pregnancy, and, in my mind, their just nuts!

Hi Kate- I love your work! I was wondering what pattern you are using for your Koigu sock- I am making a Koigu sock toe-up as well, and I am just about to do the heel. Are using the wrap and turn method or something else?

And the sock pic is great, too!
I'm sure they make baby sized slot machine cups and non-toxic poker chips. :)

I'd have said something more than "bite me" to the "fat" commenter. Have them try being pregnant.
That bug is icky. As much as I want to be nice to bugs, I'd have stepped on that one.

Yum, profiteroles! I'm jealous. I've been back in the States for 10 years now and I *still* miss the French food and markets. Sigh... I don't envy the packing, however.

You're NOT fat. You're making a baby. Tell them to bite you - one of the few really rude phrases and I love. Speaking of which, I've watched a lot of the TdeF too and it's the French whackos that make me crazy, on their bikes alongside the riders, on their motorcycles, etc. In my own experience, American crazies tend to be hyper-enthusiastic whereas French crazies tend to be ready and willing to hurt you.

I love the sock!! SOunds like you have been busy! I love watching the Tour and have been following it all closely. yes, there are way too many crazies out there... I love it when the riders hit them back!

ummmmm, you're supposed to eat whatever you want when you're pregnant, so enjoy! at least that was my philsophy through both of mine. gorgeous sock -- i want to try toe-up. good luck with the move (and for goodness sakes, i think you have enough going on without having to worry about not respnding to comments).

When I was 5 months pregnant, someone thought that my due date was soon after. In the end, I only gained 11 kilos. I haven't seen you since the picnic but all I know is everyone is different, and I don't think anyone has the right to judge what is 'normal'- especially a pregnancy! Good luck with the move and the rest of the pregnancy!

My dad had a pet praying mantis for a while. She was so cool, she laid this huge egg sack and then she died. In the middle of winter all the babies hatched and hung out all over the apartment, but they died within a few days.

I've missed a lot of your entries and I've just gone back and re-read. Congrats on having a girl! And your socks look good. The yarn is so colorful, it makes you want to knit more and more, I think.
Good luck moving, don't carry too many heavy objects and always bend at the waist.

the only part of being preggers i loathed all three pregnancies was the fact that oblivious to me my burgeoning belly was like a neon sign inviting odd questions and comments from strangers and strange in laws. i seriously thought about wearing a sign around my neck that either said touch my stomach and die or answered the faq's: due in whatever month, don't know the sex, don't know the name, and yes i'm freakin' happy i'm having a baby.

lol - love the slapping machine idea! We're totally obsessed with watching the Tour at our house these days. And perhaps you could have a pocket version of the Slapper for people who make obnoxious comments about pregnancy/babies?
The mantis is pretty cute, actually. He looks sort of quizzical.

Don't you just hate it when people come out with stupid comments like that? I'm taking a bet that said person has never been pregnant or is male!

Nice sock
Ew...I can't stand anything that's green with multiple legs.
Sounds like a lovely weekend [despite the baby cow thyroids].

If that was a French man who told you that you are fat, cuff him for me.
They all think I'm fat.
Beeeyootiful sock!

Oooh. Thanks for showing all the sock photos. You inspired me to try a toe up with my first ever Koigu. (I have very big feet and am worried about running out of yarn.) I really like how yours are looking (and all half an inch of mine).

i always manage to see some shirtless idiot with an australian flag wrapped around him running along.....same outcome i guess, but different cringe factor for me.

Hey, if you're fat for five months...That makes me cow #2! I saw your belly and it looked like mine! ;)

You are THIN for 5 month pregnant. Les françaises ne mangent rien.
Posted by: Anne at July 19, 2005 10:27 PM
I only have to say something regarding the Tour de France: I get upset when I see those idiots running along or in front of the cyclists. I deem it dangerous and an unneccessary risk - to the cyclists, if course. I laughed out loud when one of the idiots got run over by a camera-motorcycle. Yes, I was gloating and I loved it!
Maybe one more thing: Profiteroles are YUMMY!

Wow, that is a totally cool mantis photo.
Good luck with the move and all!
