Halloween crafts for lazy knitters
How to make a yarn pumpkin:
1. Buy a ball of orange yarn.
2. Roll up its tag to look like a stem.
3. Set out several to spread the Halloween spirit. Tada!

lame layette?
Whenever anyone hears that I'm a knitter, they look at my belly and say, "Ooooh, you must have knitted a beautiful layette for your baby." And I have to say, "Uh... actually, no. I've been kind of busy sleeping and eating moving and working." Even my mother-in-law, who knows how crazy things have been, keeps asking me what I've created for la bi-biche. When we found out I was pregnant back in March, I knit this:

My usual model, Tom my doll-daughter, is in a box on a boat somewhere and my real daughter is still busy giving me heartburn and swift kicks in the bladder so modeling is provided by Nelly the Jaundice Balloon.
and since then, I haven't knit a stitch for my poor, deprived daughter. No more hats. No little sweaters. No booties. Or socks. Or lacy baby blankets. She will be forced to spend her first winter in storeboughts. I've been meaning to post my bad-knitter-mom confession, but she may yet be saved! Several months ago, I had already received booties from a family friend and a beautiful, handknit blanket from a generous knitter who I met up with in Paris. Now, I have this:

It looks like some ladies are in cahoots to save my daughter from her lazy mother. This hat is from Cari who included a note saying that I am the lucky recipient of a "cyber baby shower." How cool is that?! And how cool is Alison for organizing it for someone who she has never even met in person?! I was so touched I sat and cried and then sniffled all day long just thinking about it. Thanks ladies!

woulda coulda shoulda
I would have gone to Rhinebeck for the last few years... but I was on another continent so I kept swearing, "next year, next year."
I could have gone to Rhinebeck this year... but I'm too pregnant and it's too far, so instead, I'm going to a yoga birth preparation class with Frog since it's about as far as I feel like waddling for the time being. I hope the rest of you have fun though. I'll be thinking of you while I'm doing my vocal toning and ocean breath. I won't even say "next year" this time.
I should have done a swatch and taken measurements... but I didn't. Instead, I did one of my mini swatches and ended up with this thing:

This is a thing I am/was making for Frog. But above, you see it looking out the window for the last time because it's about to be ripped. It's too big. What is "it?" It's a thing. I'll tell you when I get farther. I'm not saying more for fear that Frog will suddenly be inspired to check out the blog for the first time in months.
faithfully yours,
the wool festival virgin who is super jealous but is trying to seem like she doesn't care that much and is glad that there isn't a super fantastic yarn shop right next door to her or she might go out and do something reckless to make up for her lack of fiber and blog pal fun this weekend

My buddy and me
I made a new friend. Actually, I bought her. I've been wanting one of these suckers forever, but I was waiting to move before I got one. Productivity, here I come!

One of us is a little more padded than the other...
I think I'm going to have to stick a bra stuffed with kleenex on her to give her some real boobs.
