Turning in circles
Have you ever seen a dog who just keeps turning in circles before he finally sits down? That's me. I just don't know what to do with myself. I want to clean. I want to knit for the baby. I want to get some work done while I still can. I want to nap. I want to sit around and just read blogs. I want to watch TV. I don't know what the heck I want besides to go into labor, so I don't really do anything. Or I do little bits of everything and get nothing done. Last night I decided that the baby (who is now late according to the North American schedule, but not due yet according to the French one) is never going to come unless I knit her something. I went through all of my yarn and found a nice, soft merino. I started making socks. But the yarn is a bit thick for the pattern I started, so today, after the roast-chicken-is-as-close-as-we-can-get-to-Thanksgiving lunch with Lee Ann, we went to the yarn store. And I proceeded to turn around in circles again. I wanted color. I wanted something soft. I wanted something bright. I wanted something warm. I wanted to buy just one ball. I didn't know what the heck I wanted. I failed. I didn't find anything that was everything I wanted so I bought 5 balls... 3 for me.

From left to right: Sock yarn just cuz. It's Lee Ann's fault. I didn't even notice this one. She did and pointed it out to me. So I bought two. Next, Regia Silk to maybe use for the baby because it's pretty soft. Blue Phildar Lambswool because it's not too scratchy and it wasn't pastel. And last, but not least, look, I live in a country where not only can you buy sock yarn, you can buy Canadian Color sock yarn. How could I not buy it?
So now I'm home... turning in circles. What should I make? With which yarn? Look at the pretty sock yarn for me. No. Must knit for the baby. No. Must knit for work. No. Must wash the kitchen floor. Ooh. Look at the TV...
Woof woof. Happy Thanksgiving.

i'm also expecting VERY soon - twins. i've knitted them each a sweater, and my sister has knitted them each a blanket. you'd think they would be ready to come and try on their new clothes! so now my next project is in the 6 month size - maybe they'll see that they are not getting any more newborn clothes and will decide to come out.
hope you have a safe and happy delivery!

If I were you (that I'm not) I think I would go to the hairdresser, the beauty shop, the nail and toes salon, have several kind of massage... well, everything you won't have time for soon... and for long ^_^

I was the same way the entire week before my son was born. Now I'm still the same way in the times he sleeps & I can't (seriously, he sleeps about 18-20 hours a day, only waking long enough to nurse & get his diaper changed. I'm tired, but not THAT tired!). I'm sure that will change once he's older (he's only 4 days old, coming into the world is tiring work!), but for now, I'm barking right along with ya.

Hope you are feeling well!

Ooooh, nesting! You could start one of those pairs of socks for the labor room. That way it will be already past the pay-attention cast on part, and at the knit-mindlessly-around-in-circles part when you need it.

I hope it is soon! I LIVED on Tums my last trimester. There is simply no room in there for a stomach. What poor planning on evolution's part!

Pregnancy is making you funnier! ;-) Hurry up, baby!

Sounds like that baby's coming soon. :)

Rest and sleep as much as possible, because a newborn will not let you sleep more than a couple hours at a time! Walk everyday, activity will bring labor on. Cooking is good. Freeze some food now to enjoy later. See any movies you've been wanting to see. It's difficult to get to a theater with a baby. Enjoy your last few days as a couple. Best wishes!!

I bet it will be any day now! Sounds like you've got a bit of nesting syndrome :)
I wish you and the baby well...

Pretty baby socks/booties in all the colours -- and the yarn you bought for you, well, matching mommie/baby socks! Moving around is good. Wahing the floor won't hurt you if that is what you feel you need to do. Better to wash it now than later! Happy holidays!

So nice to hear from you - was wondering if you'd already gone into labor and we wouldn't be hearing from you for awhile. If you can stretch out on the couch and knit and watch tv, then you're "multi-tasking", which perhaps might help the restlessness a bit? (But, what do I know - no kids here!) If hubby could also set up the computer over near the couch so you could blog-surf while you rested, knitted and watched tv, then you'd be golden! ;-)
I just realized that you are the author of the famous (infamous?) clapotis pattern that everyone under the sun has knitted. Perhaps baby needs a clapotis wrap in a solid color?
Whatever you decide to knit, here's wishing you a quick, safe, painless, comfortable delivery with a wonderful gift at the end! :-)

you bring back memories...i usually ended up on the "look at the TV" one, watching hours of the discovery health channel. hang in there. (a late) happy roast chicken day. pretty yarn colours.

Honey, if you will speak of Canadian color, you must learn to spell it correctly: colour.
fingers crossed.

It is SO not my fault if you can't resist a nice yarn...
My sock books came in the mail today. Want to do a supermini sock-along?
Thank you for making my otherwise non-Thanksgiving something to be thankful for, dry roast chicken and all. And need I remind you that it was YOU who told me my laundry and my dirty dishes could wait until AFTER a trip to the yarn store? Ahem. Just setting the record straight. ;-)
Hang tough, honey. Crevette will come out soon. Don't let anyone jump the gun for you unless you get too uncomfortable. Big bisoux and a hug because, well, I ain't French ;-)

Wishing you a gentle labour and birth, as soon as possible. I hated the waiting. Keep yourself busy and relaxed and go by the French calendar--babies come when they're ready.

I think this means that you're ready! You're nesting. BTW, can't remember if I told you or not, but I finally sent out a knitted gift for the baby this week, so it should be winging its way to you as we speak. xox,

Courage Kate, dans quelques mois je serai comme toi et tu pourras bien rigoler en repensant à tes derniers jours d'attente (stick to the French calendar and think she's not due yet, if it helps)
Take care
Alice.

Knit a pair for yourself! When I gave birth I had my socks on, if hadn't, my feet would have frozen of, je te jure! Maybe Canadian hospitals are warmer.

I'm thinking of you often in your last days before Tadpole arrives. Best wishes for a speedy predictable labor and delivery and for a perfectly beautiful healthy baby. Do all your nesting - go ahead - I think it somehow pushes you to the point of delivery because your body can't take it any more. heh And yes, it's TIME already. C'mon... my baby is two weeks old today and we were due at the same time!

I know EXACTLY how you feel having just had baby number 2 a month ago. I was going around in circles not knowing what i wanted to do and getting myself stressed in the process. I say, take it easy, relax, knit but leave the kitchen floor for someone else!

I've never been in this condition myself. but if you think the baby wants knitted encouragement. I say go with that! Meanwhile, sit. Stay. Relax. Eat turkey. It will be better soon!

Try to enjoy these last moments as a couple, if you can go out to the movies, the restaurant, the library. In just a few days life will be completly changed! ;) For what it's worth my 2nd was born on week 41.

must be a restless, anxious time for you... hope baby comes soon. :)
enjoy your lovely new sock yarns.

I know that feeling.
Happy Thanksgiving.

If it's any consolation, I've been like that at work for the last few weeks. Your analogy describes PERFECTLY how I've been feeling.

I know exactly what you mean, as I sit here with mounds of yarn, beads, and watercolor paints around me.
