I'm an idiot & a contest
I'll spare you the details of how I figured out I'm an idiot. They're much too boring to relate. Just more knitting trials and tribulations. You'll just have to take my word for it or keep checking my blog for proof.
And just for the hell of it, here's a quiz about me not there anymore. It's pretty much stuff that you most likely don't, and even shouldn't know about me. Winners will be chosen at random from top scores, or bottom scores, or best explanation of your answers in the comments or one of each or whatever Frog, my parents and I feel like. Those who do too well will be awarded restraining orders. Others may receive yarn (might be stash yarn, might be bought especially for you - I haven't really thought about it yet). Non-knitters who might win will receive a box of my favorite breakfast cereal. Family members and close personal friends are welcome to play but are not eligible to get free junk. You have Wednesday, Thursday and until I check my email on Friday to be entered in the contest. After that, you'll be taking the quiz for your own amusement. Good night and good luck. PS If you stick a fake email address in the thing, that's fine. Just leave your real one in the comments along with your score so I can contact you.

Feeling the pressure
I have a day by day plan for the project I'm working on right now. I've mapped out exactly what I have to knit each day in order to make the deadline with no worries. On Friday, I was 3 days ahead of schedule and feeling great. Then I held the piece up and realized that it's all shorter than I wanted. I tried to convince myself that it's ok like that, but I just can't. So I'm about to do something painful. I have to rip. 40 rows. 40 wiiiiiiiiiiiiide rows. I'm so bummed. Now I'll be 4 days behind.

My other projects aren't going much better. I bought buttons for Tadpole's sweater but I'm incapable of making decisions right now. I don't know which buttons to use or how I want to do the shoulders or neck so it's just stalled. And since it's so crappy and cold out. I would like to get this thing done so she can wear it before the sweltering heat arrives.

And above is my new obsession. I want all of my notions to be together in one place. I found these nifty containers at the dollar store. I wish they had bigger ones. Can you imagine? My whole house arranged in these things... All the wools in one level, cottons in another, armchair in another... I miss how clean and empty our apartment was before the boxes arrived from France.

Protecting my UFOs from alien mind control

I'm knitting with Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran right now. Know how the balls always fall apart and unwind, especially when you move it from your "desk" to the couch to your bag to the couch, etc. ? It was making me nuts. I was trying to figure out how I could keep the ball to stay in one piece while still being able to work from the center. I thought about poking holes into those cheap tupperware things but the ones I have are kind of bulky. I thought foil might be a good option. And it was. It's working pretty well. If anyone has any other brilliant ideas. I'm all ears.
Updated to add: I tried the ziploc bag thing - not the snipped corner, the just open zipper thing. There was too much drag on the yarn. It made me nuts. I kept end up with the bags right up against my hands. Has anyone ever tried those yarn bra things? I remember seeing them somewhere... Maybe I should buy some bags of those chocolate coins. It's out of the yarn bra material.

The post where I show my mess
I keep thinking about posts and meaning to post. Unfortunately, the wireless connection between my brain and my computer isn't working yet so here we are 2 weeks into May. One of the posts I was meaning to write was written by Wendy the other day, so... never mind.

Here's the sock I knit while I'm hiding in the bathroom to have 2 minutes of peace, or when Tadpole actually naps, or is busy sucking on things other than me. I call it the "2 round sock" because it's a miracle if I ever knit more than 2 rounds in one sitting. It's Scout's hedgehog yarn.

And here's part of the progress on Tadpole's sweater. I'm working on the neck of the front and still debating how I'm going to deal with the shoulders so we'll be able to get it over her head. There will certainly be some sort of snaps or buttons. I just haven't decided what. And after sending off my most recent work FO, I gave myself the weekend off and whipped out a sleeve. The end is so near I can taste it.

And just because I'm feeling like a slob and I'm ashamed of it and for some reason have this strange compulsion to stand up and admit it, here's my "desk." It's actually an ottoman that I've been meaning to get reupholstered. Frog and I decided to share a real desk which quickly meant I had no desk since I'm the one with the laptop. On the "desk" you can find a bank statement, yarn for 5 different projects, about a thousand dknitting needles, the only pair of socks I have successfully finished, some copies of Martha Stewart Living (yes, I love Martha. Sue me), Frog's graphic tablic, a box of notions, several knitting books, the 2006 Canadian census, random receipts, a post it note that says "TOWELS" on it and a copy of Harold and the Purple Crayon. And ooh! there are the missing scissors! Jessica also showed her mess today. Anyone else want to show theirs?
Nice chatting with you all. Have a great weekend and happy mother's day.
