Gosh. I had no idea that so many of you out there were librarians. It makes me curious what else you do.

I've started the knit quilt. I've done more than you see in the photo. I'm just too lazy to rephotograph it. I'm working with 20 different shades of Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece. I keep messing around with where the colors are and I can't make a decision, but I've started anyway. Square number 1 of 12 is almost done.

I really should finish Tadpole's sweater one of these days, shouldn't I.

I like your blanket, and I agree lots of colour is good! I wanted to ask where you got your stitch markers from and are they still available, as they look really secure. Came across your blog via Angel Yarns forum and the Clapotis thread.

I am interested in were you got the pattern for the knit guilt. Please let me know if you can.
Thank you. Jean

I have to say I love this. Now I want to not only learn how to sew quilts, but knit them too!

Posted by: Lisa at August 24, 2006 03:51 PM

It's funny - I'm a book indexer, and I'm on a couple of lists - it turns out a lot of female indexers are spinner, knitters, and weavers.

I can already tell this is going to be a great quilt. I must investigage is there a quilting patterns knitting book?

I'm a Director of Volunteer Coordination for the United Way ... and a mom ... and a wife ... and apparently the maid! I also write big, scary computer books, which makes me the Queen of the Nerds!

I knit, I quilt, I'm a librarian. Love the knitted quilt beginnings.

Hi, Kate! Love, love, love your log cabin blankie and can't wait to see the finished product. Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece is a great choice -- not machine-washable, but lots of colors, and that'll make the blankie good for three-season use. Thanks for sharing -- I'll keep swinging by to see how it grows. : ))

I love that blanke. Great take on the log cabin concept. Beautiful!

Tadpole can't wear a sweater for another month or two....hot, hot, hot! Work on that blanket and if she gets cold, wrap her in the WIP!

I was a librarian for 14 years. I miss it a lot and will probably return to that profession after all technical work is sent offshore.

Posted by: Eileen at August 9, 2006 08:54 PM

As a knitter who is also a quilter, I give you a sitting ovation!

Posted by: Lynn at August 8, 2006 03:19 PM

Court reporter, but I LOVELOVELOVE the library. I have about a dozen knitting books sitting on a table now, totally free. Well, for a few weeks anyway. Nice quilt; I'm about to start the clapotis. I really really need it; it'll be cold before we know it.

That's too cool for just on picture....hint, hint, hint

Posted by: wendy at August 7, 2006 01:16 PM

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished blanket- all that color is terribly exciting to me. That's probably because I'm an aspiring artist, only I still have to work as a greenhouse research technician to do things like eat and stuff.

Librarians are everywhere--and we are waiting to HELP YOU! what other job can require you to be an expert in blogs and MySpace (to help patrons, of course). I surf the net at work FOR work! librarians work for Google! I love the library--all those vintage and NEW knitting books free at my disposal.

Lovely log cabin!

Nice! Did you make up the pattern? The Cotton Fleece will come out SO nicely. Is it going to be small for the baby or big?

Posted by: Laura at August 6, 2006 12:00 PM

Wow - that quilt is looking very cool. and BTW - I also love libraries, not because I'm a librarian but because I'm an academic. I actually have an "I love my librarian" T-shirt that always gets comments from librarians. (I try not to wear it in the library, though, and look like a kiss-ass).

I am a nurse, dedicated library patron, and major fan of Kate Gilbert knitwear design. Some other things too, but that's the relevent stuff for now, I think.

Posted by: sarah at August 5, 2006 02:27 PM

I am totally in love with this quilt you are making. Where do I find the pattern. It looks pretty simple but I don't trust myself enough to just wing it. I must make one now!!!

Posted by: Brook at August 5, 2006 10:32 AM

I love the library too; I'm always thinking 'look how much money I'm saving by not buying these books' and then I spend it all on yarn.... I love this blanket; is it your own design? I know a lot of us will want to copy it!!

Posted by: Bonney at August 5, 2006 07:53 AM

Hi
its great that you are doing all this great stuff but there are still quite a lot of us waiting on Lise booties pattern

Posted by: Margaret at August 5, 2006 06:47 AM

Hey, I'm a librarian, too! ;-) And the blanket is going to be so cool!

Posted by: janna at August 4, 2006 09:25 PM

Wow...wow...I've been reading your blog for a while, I'm a lurker a guess...and I just had to come out of the wood work to compliment this! wow! I've been admiring all the log cabin afghans that have been so popular in blog-land lately, and this is a fantastic spin on it! Keep it up!! :o)

Posted by: Becky at August 4, 2006 06:14 PM

what? i missed something about a library? i'm a librarian, too! hurray for you and using the library!

Posted by: bekka at August 4, 2006 04:20 PM

That pattern is marvelous. WHAT A WORK. But it will be a masterpiece!

Posted by: ajoursteek at August 4, 2006 04:06 PM

graphic designer / flash developer!
but i used to work as a page in the library...

Posted by: Janice at August 4, 2006 02:22 PM

Lovely blanket! I've been dreaming of a knitted coverlet for my bed, but get too busy with other projects. You know, don't you, that Tadpole won't stop growing, just because you're on to a new project? :0)

Posted by: Charity at August 4, 2006 12:02 PM

Lovely blanket. Now I'm contemplating buying large amounts of cotton fleece!

As to what else I do, I'm a political fundraiser.

Posted by: Flan at August 4, 2006 11:20 AM

Finish Tadpole's sweater? You mean like, before she grows out of it? Never happened to me. Nope. Except twice.
B'sides, when would she wear it in August?

Posted by: julia fc at August 4, 2006 10:58 AM

I am a library lurker and have spent some time lurking on your blog too.
I love the colors you have in the photo and the process loooks fun.
Enjoy!

Posted by: Susan at August 4, 2006 10:44 AM

that design is stunning! Looking forward to seeing more of it as it develops. Happy weekend to you and sweet Tadpole.

Posted by: regina at August 4, 2006 10:43 AM

man oh man...20 different colors? you do realize that i have a very serious disease when it comes to limiting myself to just one color in a project. this might be the project of my dreams...i may be forced to copy you.

Posted by: maryse at August 4, 2006 10:30 AM

PS - I used to work as a librarian as well. Got the degree and everything. ;-)

Posted by: Cara at August 4, 2006 10:19 AM

That's going to be one helluva blanket! As someone completely obsessed with log cabins right now, I have to say I'm totally envious of your design. So, so wonderful! Good luck with it! Thanks for sharing.
