ohmygodimgoingtokillmyself
I have all of my Dale Baby Ull in one container. I have purple and green and yellow and 2 reds and 2 whites, one creamier and one whiter. Well, you know that sleeve I whipped out in one day? I knit it with the creamy white. The rest of the sweater was knit with the white white. But by the light of a lightbulb, you can't tell the freaking difference! BUT IN THE SUNLIGHT YOU CAN. SOMEONE PLEASE SAVE ME FROM MYSELF. I MIGHT DO SOMETHING DRASTIC.
maybe i don't care. it's been cloudy here for days, which is why i have lights on all the time which is why i couldn't tell. i'll just make her wear it in the dark. yeah that's it.

Umm, consider it a design change and call it a day?

I know you've already made your decision by now, but seriously - NobodyElseIsGoingToNotice!!!!!

Any way to get Tadpole to only face people sideways while wearing the sweater?
Posted by: Kate at October 10, 2006 07:52 AM
i would suggest that you start over again. it will probably annoy you otherwise. i would defintitely do that and have done so many times in my 36+ years of knitting. my aunt used to say: if you are not satisfied redo it. only thing that works.
Posted by: merete at October 10, 2006 07:32 AM
Kate - screw it! Leave it be. It will be awesome on Tadpole, and no one will notice but you.

My babies are a litle older but when I look over some favorite outfits, the whites all look a little yellowed. Could that be the chemical reason explained above? Or maybe a little spit-up?? In any case, your sweater is perfectly to-die-for (no pun), and will only look better with the tadpole actually in it. Let it go...

leave it! it's beautiful! it's an ultimate design element! it's custom-made to tadpole's fashion-forward specifications -- she totally wants it that way.

That is so something I would do. Because I'm anal, I'd do it over. But in the grand scheme of things, it's probably a waste of time. I vote for the tea dye.

In the grand scheme of things, does it really matter? it's such a beautiful pattern, and knit with so much love. i'm sure when tadpole looks back at photos of herself in her beautiful sweater, she'll only notice how happy you both look.

Oh NO! I think I'd probably leave it, but will you hate it forever?

Wish I could offer some magic word to help, all I can think of is breathe....

This is totally going to dorkify me, but I am taking a grad school chem class on dyeing and finishing. Most likely, the white white looks whiter because there is an optical brightener in the yarn (this is why dyeing commercially bleached yarn doesn't work - the o.b. leaves no room for new dye!) Optical brighteners reflect UV rays, and unlike bleach which actually breaks dye bonds, are just another dye on the fiber and are not fast. Over time the white-white will "yellow" in sunlight b/c the optical brighteners will stop working... and both yarns will look the same!!! If you leave it out in the sun for a few days, it will expedite this process, too! (I hope this makes you feel better b/c that class is arduous and I want something good to come of it!!!)

I'd be lying if I said I couldn't tell that one sleeve looks darker now that you mentioned it. It would make me a bad friend if I lied, right?
Posted by: Jen at October 6, 2006 07:57 AM
I would leave it and pretend it is suppose to be that way! It looks adorable.

Breathe. Breeeeeathe. It's okay. It only took you one day to knit that sleeve. You can redo it. It's just one day.
And remember to breathe!

Oh noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
No one will notice on your cute baby, believe me. And the rest of your noters. :)
Posted by: Rose at October 5, 2006 06:52 PM
you can't tell. let it go.
Posted by: maryse at October 5, 2006 05:53 PM
Totally agree with everyone else... leave it. The baby will be so perfect that if the sweater was too, the light from the child would blind everyone.
Posted by: Nicole at October 5, 2006 04:39 PM
She will move her arms so much that no one will notice but you--and everyone will be distracted by her lovely face anyway.
Plus, you are a designer. ITS A DESIGN FEATURE! asymmetry is beautiful.

I second the tea-dye it to match/wait for her to stain it vote.
Posted by: Danielle at October 5, 2006 03:32 PM
Tadpole is so cute that no one (but you) will ever notice or comment upon the difference! Leave it be.
Posted by: Leslie at October 5, 2006 03:17 PM
Uh...teastain the rest so it's all creamy?
On second thought, Tadpole could probably handle the staining process herself...
Posted by: Lee Ann at October 5, 2006 03:02 PM
It's intentional: to help her learn left from right.
Posted by: cari at October 5, 2006 02:30 PM
I think your story needs the word "edgy" -- as in, the sweater just wasn't edgy enough so you used a different shade.
BTW I think the sweater is more likely to fit and be well-loved and worn if you leave the sleeve than if you make it perfect. It's just how life works ;-)

I am only laughing because I can see myself doing the exact same thing. Some projects are charmed, others you have to work for!
Posted by: Julia at October 5, 2006 02:19 PM
Nonsense. You meant to do it. It is a tonal ombre... or something.
Posted by: Kat at October 5, 2006 02:18 PM
ouch! i don't suppose duplicate stitch would work?
Posted by: bea at October 5, 2006 02:10 PM
Tadpole can't tell the difference. If anyone says anything, just shrug and say - hmmm, can't see what you are talking about. (Sort of the knitting equivalent of putting your fingers in your ears and singing lalalalalalalaIcan'thearyou.)

Oh crap! Need I add anything more? :(
