January 11, 2007

Let's go to Winnipeg!

On the 3rd of January, I finished the first sock. Yesterday I finished the second. This is a record for me. The last pair of socks I finished was TWO YEARS AGO! It was incredibly satisfying to finish a project for myself and to finish it so quickly. At the same time, the whole time I was knitting these things I kept wondering WHY I was knitting them. I have projects I should have been working on. Also, my sock yarn stash includes Fleece Artist, Artyarns Supermerino, Koigu, Celestial Merino and hand-dyeds from Scout and Mama E's c*eye*ber fibers, yet I was knitting Regia (not to knock Regia. I like Regia. I just wondered why I wasn't using something more luxurious when I had it at my fingertips. Regia Silk, even.) Canadian Color [sic]. Before you ask, I think this is Manitoba #4737. I made them top down. And I was so nervous about running out of yarn that I ended up with a decent amount left over. I even thought about taking out the ribbing on top and knitting in the other direction to make them longer, but I realized that would probably never finish them if I did that. I also considered making some socks for Tadpole with the leftovers. We'll see. My fleece artist is calling to me. I'll worry about the left overs later.

Lovely colours, the socks. There's nothing more fun than a pair of homemade socks!!

They surely are the Manitoba colourway...I made some myself this summer.

I'm not a sock knitter, but these are gorgeous. Of course, they would have to be, named after such a beautiful province as ours!! If you are ever in Winterpeg, let us all know. We'll have a yarn party.

Coming to Wpg! Are you nuts? It was -35C or worse yesterday. Mind you, you could give your lovely new socks quite the workout here at the moment.

How great to manage to find enough knitting time to knit a pair so quickly! Sounds like you have a fabulous sock yarn stash- I hope you manage to continue finding sock knitting time.
(The fear of running out of yarn is why I now prefer to knit my socks toe-up. I'm also such a nerd that I weigh the first one to check that I have the same amount of yarn left for the second. That way I can make them as long as possible)

Beautiful socks. I say use the leftovers for Tadpole ... talk about an instant gratification project!

The colors in the socks are lovely.

What an excellent project to lift your spirits in the dullness of winter! and you really could have fun making a pair for Tadpole to match!

Very nice! I'm impressed, and love the color. What is it about socks that they take so long? I've been knitting the same pair since mid november, only one more leg left to go!

The socks look great. I especially admire the heels. And the fact that you finished a whole pair in a week. Wow!

Posted by: Susan at January 11, 2007 03:05 PM

That would be so cute -- matching socks for you and Tadpole!

I love the socks! Happy (belated) New Year!

It happens sometimes, that quick-and-dirty sock-knitting urge. Maybe it was the stripes that drew you in. I think it's funny that you actually linked to the real Manitoba. :)

Pretty, quick, and matchy-matchy! Love it! :) Happy new year!

And here I thought you were actually coming to visit us here in winnipeg. Too bad.

I think socks are sometimes meant for instant gratification. I love your new pair--it makes me want to work on mine!
