Now with less poop!
We're home and elated to be so. Paris was very much the same, and at the same time, different. I even went into our old apartment (a good friend lives there) and it was, again, the same and different. The main difference we noticed was that there seemed to be less dog poop. I mean in Paris, of course. There was never any dog poop in our apartment except for when we stepped in it and walked into the house. We came home the same and different too. It's strange going to someplace you lived and you liked living (mostly) and realizing that you no longer have any desire to live there. It's exactly the opposite of what happens to me every time I go to New York. Tadpole came home saying "coucou" and "oui oui oui oui" plus a few new words in English. The trip was so fast that we saw most people for only a couple of hours. I didn't make it to one single yarn store and the only thing I bought was a bag of Michokos (dark chocolate covered caramels). Even if I didn't have time for yarn shopping, having five other adults around did buy me a little knitting time. I worked on the sleeve of a sweater and I also worked on version B of this:

Marina Piccola socks (I'll explain the name later)
It's the sock I did for Scout's Swag Club and will soon (hopefully) be available on my site. Tadpole's up from her nap. More later. What have you all been up to?

Amazing socks. Working on Pomatomus now and love the simple, graphic pattern. Will for sure make yours as soon as the pattern is available.

Sounds like you had fun, but it's good to be back home too. I'm in Milan currently, visitng the in-laws, and there's quite a bit of poop here too (or at least compared to NYC where laws tend to lessen it somewhat). Nice sock too!

I love that sock!

I'm so excited to see this awesome sock - even more so to be in Scout's Swag club - cause I'll get this pattern eventually! Weee! Gorgeous!

I feel a bit faint - those socks are splendid and must be mine.
Posted by: Shannon B at May 30, 2007 09:01 PM
delurking to say hi! i just got from paris too - i actually considered delurking earlier to ask you about yarn shops for when i was there. turns out i was WAY too busy walking around gawking at things to bother looking for yarn (strange but true!).
love this post title - i noticed less poop then i was expecting to tell the truth.
and great sock!

Ooooh! It's beautiful!

That is really sweet about Tadpole. I imagine it is very cute to hear your little one start to use French!
Posted by: molly! at May 30, 2007 06:15 PM
EXACTLY! Though, oddly, that's how I feel about NYC. Eh.
I NEED that pattern. It'll be the perfect exuse to get some more sock yarn I don't need. Pattern. NOW!
Posted by: valentina at May 30, 2007 05:32 PM
Oh, I need that sock! It's exactly what I've been trying to find for my sockpal, and I have the perfect tidal pool colorway too.
Will it be available in the next couple weeks?

Welcome back! I know what you mean about loving to go back for a visit, but wouldn't want to live there. I get that feeling every time I go back to Amsterdam.
Those socks are absolutely gorgeous! They look like a day at the beach with the blues and the waves.
As for Tadpole's French words, be thankful that she's not saying "putain" as all of my French (not Quebecois) friends and coworkers insist on putting in almost every sentence.

ha! i love that the most memorable thing about this trip is that there is less poop.
always a good thing.

OMG OMG OMG OMG I need that sock. Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeed it. (I promise if you make it available soon I will stop being so annoying but OMG I need it.)

End of the school year madness, with a dash of home repair insanity. The usual.
That's a beautiful sock ... the yarn and pattern are perfect for each other.

Wow, Kate that sock is gorgeous! And best blog post title I've seen in a long time.

Oh, I really like that sock!
Posted by: Josiane at May 30, 2007 01:09 PM
Welcome home!
Thanks for reminding me that I need to make those socks.
Posted by: Cookie at May 30, 2007 01:09 PM
I'm so glad you're back! Welcome! As to Miss Tadpole, it's better to say "oui oui oui" than "non non non," don't you think? That'll come soon enough. The sock is just beautiful.
Posted by: regina at May 30, 2007 12:57 PM
Oh my - those socks are gorgeous. I can't wait for the pattern. Welcome back from Paris - I remember the last time I was there I was rather floored by all the dog poop. It's so not what you think of when you think of Paris - but Montmartre (where we stayed) was full of it. Glad to hear they're takin' care of that...
Posted by: Elizabeth at May 30, 2007 12:07 PM
half the wave continuing down the foot...it's so pleasing to the eye! ( eyes? ). just in time for summer, a terrific pattern !!
Posted by: barbara at May 30, 2007 11:55 AM
The poop is not just in Paris - it's all over Holland too. It's a much complained about feature of living over in these parts. Strangers have come up to me to thank me for picking up my dog's little prezzies.
Posted by: Jen at May 30, 2007 11:50 AM
Love the sock!
Posted by: Jeanine at May 30, 2007 11:15 AM
Sounds like a whirlwind of a trip. The socks are so cool. I cant wait for them to be here. Love the pattern.

Aren't you all shee-shee-fon-fon, miss international traveller! "Oh Pareeee, we love you, but we do not miss you."
Just kidding...welcome home. And great sock!
