The proof is in the putting

...putting on the sweater that is. I never feel like a project is done until I put it on. Most of the projects I knit aren't quite to my current size, but they aren't so small that I can't manage it, so I put them on, usually in the middle of the night when I'm really looking my best, so I can see what they look like on a person, rather than on my lap, and to see if the finished project in any way resembles what I had wanted. This time, it does, but a bit less than I would have liked. Here's the proof of the putting:

I suppose all this really proves is that I have bad aim, my mirror needs cleaning and I have a new camera, but you can kind of see the sweater... kind of. I call it "the puffed wheat sweater." I'm sure it will be changed. Often, the names I choose shift a little or are changed completely. For example, the Picot Posey mittens? Not my name. A very smart friend said that she liked how the colors "hopscotched" and I thought that she was exactly right (you'll have to see up close) so I called them "the Hopscotch Mittens." It was changed. Oh well. They'll always be Hopscotch to me. And the Sunrise Circle Jacket? It's just the Circle Jacket. And the Mommy Snug? Just Snug. And the Pea Pod set? Leaf Layette. I don't usually care, but I was disappointed at losing "Hopscotch."

I hate to sign off after a sentence with something negative in it, so... ummmm... Have a great weekend. I'm going to do a little naptime spinning.

Updated to add: An extra-long nap allowed for a decent chunk of spinning time and podcast listening. I just called my friend who said, "Is this the same Kate Gilbert I saw this morning?" I was a particularly miserable, grumpy and frustrated woman this morning and now I'm, as my friend said, "a brand new Kate Gilbert." A little mind-emptying spinning that lasts longer than you had expected can do that to you. I hope you all find something this weekend that makes you brand-new.

The Kate is dead! Long live the Kate!

The cast of characters (or is it the character of the cast?) may change, but the succession remains intact...

Blessings!

Huh, the renaming thing is interesting. I have a friend who was a journalist and she told me that they don't even get to write their headlines. The editors do. So they work really hard to write this kick ass story and then some editor mucks it up with a stupid headline.

I would be upset about the posey change too. Mostly because the new name reminds me of Parker Posey. Who I really don't like too much.

Ohh, the renaming game. Something I never thought of on the public side of books and magazines with patterns in them. No matter what the name, your designs are well loved and always the latest greatest thing when they come out and seem to be long time classics. One of these days I'll make a Clap. :)

Hope all is well - I loved reading of the latest words from Tadpole!

the sweater looks great. sometimes the first 'putting on' is the best part. thanks for sharing the moment with us.

I like your names better, too.
And by the way.....your hair looks Fab!!!

I'm liking the sweater! That's it, I've got to take up spinning - sounds very relaxing.

I'm so utterly bewildered. How can they change the name of your designs? That's akin to changing the name of someone's song or book. I'm sure it happens in other media, but i'm not aware of it. I like your names much better, though as some smart commenter put it, your designs are wonderful no matter what they're called.

I'm glad you got to spin and that it had such a positive affect on your psyche.

Big hugs to you and Miss Tadpole.

isn't spinning amazing like that? I was amazed to get to do some fibre prep and spinning a couple of days in a row last week, and my friend said "you've been spinning haven't you?" when she heard my voice on the phone- it cheered me up that much.

Your patterns are so fashion forward, Kate. I really admire your creativity.

Congrats on the new camera! That's always fun!

Glad you found spinning to be restorative. I have experienced this same thing before.

Hey Sweetie - Thanks for your call - I was in France. Just got back last night. Gonna hit the hay pretty soon 'cause of jet lag, but let's try to catch up soon. I wish you were less tired!

Leaf Layette works for me so much more than Pea Pod set, which has always made me stop and wonder why it's called that other than the model sweater is a nice pea green colour. And then I start daydreaming about gardening and how I can't seem to grow decent peas...

And on being brand-new this weekend - my daughter just turned 11 and is having 4 friends over for a sleepover, so I'll be brand-new alright but that may not be a good thing! Have a good weekend!

I'm glad you've found that escape, that way to feel better! And I look forward to, you know, actually seeing the sweater. :) I've been a long admirer of your designs and beautiful products.

Glad that the nap time was longer than expected. It is alway refreshing to have that little extra surprise. Glad that you are feeling better. I use my spinning for relaxing as well.

congrats on getting the sweater done! you need to celebrate this weekend :)

Whatever they're called, your patterns are so beautiful! When can we expect to see this one published and get a "full frontal" photo?

(Sorry--did not mean to post the same comment twice. I didn't think the first one had gone through, so I tried again. And look--here I am eating up even more bandwidth with my explanation! Ha.)

I've found your designs to be quite charming--no matter what they're named! :) Looking forward to seeing this new one...
