What to do

Fleece Artist Blue Faced Leicester
125 g/4.4 oz = 165 m/181 yd
Here's some Fleece Artist BFL that I spun up to reward myself for finishing the puffed wheat sweater. I had 4 50g bumps (that's what you call them, right?) but I forgot about the 4th and used 3. I made a 3 ply until the first bobbin ran out. I still have a little left on 2 bobbins. Plus, I have the 4th bump and another one that is a silk merino blend in the same color. I'm not sure what to do with them. Do I make a 2-ply with what's left and make a marled (that's what it's called, right?) 2-ply with the silk and the BFL? I don't know what to do. I have so many lovely fibers sitting around and so little time to spin that I'm tempted to give what's left away or forget about it for a while and go spin something else. If I don't get rid of some of my spinning stash, I'll never be able to justify buying anything at Rhinebeck this year. Anyway, I'm pretty happy with what I made. It seems balanced. The color's pretty great. It's even-ish, which is good enough for now. Ok, all you experienced spinners, advise away.

What a dilemma! If it were my dilemma, I'd decide what to make with the yarn, and if I had enough, I'd put the bump away for a rainy day, or gift it, or sell it, or trade it. And if I didn't have enough yardage to do what I wanted, then I'd weigh what's left on the bobbins, divide the bump into 3 piles, and match each pile with a bobbin. then I'd be sure that that the 3 lots (each lot is a pile plus a bobbin) were even. spin em up and ply away!
have fun!

You did a wonderful job spinning. The yarn looks beautiful and even. One must reward oneself for completing deadline knitting! :)

I love the color.

I like Abby's suggestion so much I am going to do it myself next time I have similar stuff to combine.
And Rhinebeck isn;t for AGES. You have plenty of time.

Oh, I don't spin (yet), I just drool over gorgeous handspun. (sigh) Sorry, I am no help at all. So, we're even.

If it were me, I think I'd probably split that bump into two piles, and then call the wool/silk blend a third pile. Then, I'd take fiber from each pile and redistribute it, making 3 totally new piles with random fiber from all 3.
Then, I'd spin those up into 3 new bobbins (or, you know, fill up the ones you've got some left on, too, haha!) Then I'd ply those into a 3-ply yarn. You would have parts of it that are exactly like your yarn pictured, and parts of it that have the wool/silk in it, and parts of it that have almost all wool/silk -- so a variegated, but essentially matching, yarn to what you already have, that you could easily use in the same project.

If Rhinebeck purchasing is in question, of course I can help by taking the 4th bump off your hands. I am a big BFL fan!

I'm totally with you on the fairy tale thing. Must spin stash or I can't get anything at Rhinebeck. Which would just be unfair. I have to spin my way out of a whole room of stuff.
That said, if you want to get rid of anything red, you know where I live. :-)

So you have nearly 150g of this pretty pretty 3ply. And 50g more of the same fiber... you definitely could split the extra 50g into three pieces and then ply them. The silk blend - do it by itself. That way you'll have nearly 200g of this and you can "do something" with 200g. Hat/scarf for Tadpole. That would be very cute. Lots of choices out there. Socks.
It's fun to have a spinning stash. I recently combined several fibers in a stripey way to make a shawl from various small bits of fiber that I had stashed. There wasn't enough of any one to make enough yarn to really "do something" with so combining made a very interesting shawl.
I'm really in agreement with Nanette - spin with intent. And then knit with the yarn you made. It's so satisfying.
Take care! xoxox

It looks great. I'm having a hard time finding spinning time too. Rhinebeck this year? (Ohh, I LOVE the new sock pattern -- gorgeous).

(Not a spinner at all) but that yarn looks beautiful - I'm enjoying looking at the - *cozy*-looking plies and colours, and wondering what you'll do with it...

You could always weigh out three even bits of the 4th bump and spin three singles, plying them together to make a matching 3 ply.
Then the silk you could spin and ply on its own.
Or you can spin the two together for that marled yarn. Or even cable that yarn and make it a little less marled.
Or you can even think up some other option. =D
Best bet is to think of what you'd eventually like to do with the finished yarn(s) and take it from there.
