Two recent conversations
Friend: So you were away?
Me: Yeah. We went to a fiber festival outside of Boston.
Friend: A fiber festival.
Me: Mmm hmmm.
Friend: You mean people sitting around eating brown bread?
Standing in front of my office where there is a tall, thin bookcase sort of thing full of buckets overflowing with yarn
Friend 2: Kate, I thought your stash was in Tadpole's closet.
Me: It is.
Friend 2: Then what's all of this yarn for?
My family has often used the word "intervention" when talking about the yarn I have but after seeing what some of you have (I won't name names) I'm very confident, I have a small, manageable stash. Not as small as Friend 2 who has such a petite stash that it might not even fill one of those giant plastic bags... Maybe I should take her to Vermont Sheep and Wool.

Hallelujah!
Long story short: I went to the fiber revival. Stayed with a great friend who has yarn and fiber all over the house and wool wash in the shower right next to the shampoo. Bought a little. Chatted a bit. Met some lovely people. Ran into other lovely people that I already knew and loved. Got to see a good friend who made the trip just to see me for 2 hours. Took a good class sitting next to une nouvelle amie. Etherknitter Laurie and Two Left Needles Monica helped me trouble shoot a squeak in my wheel and then Seed Stitch Cheryl helped me fix a problem I was having with my tension knob. I am now set to fall in love with my wheel. I just need a little spinning time. Want photos?

The circle got bigger and bigger

In love FO sure

It was done in less than a week.

I didn't run out of yarn.

And I'm crazy in love with this sweater.
I've made last minute arrangements to take a trip to the fiber revival. Anyone else going?

Racing
I'm making Tadpole a top-down raglan. It seemed I would have just barely enough so I've been racing to finish it thinking the faster I knit it, the slower the yarn will be used up. I know I'm not alone in my irrationality. I'm also racing to see what the yarn will look like. I just can't stop knitting this thing.

Since I have 2 yarns that aren't quite the same, I decided to work 10 rows of one, 10 rows of the other. I worked the body to a certain point, then I started the sleeves. I'm nearly done with the sleeves and I still have a decent amount of yarn left so I think I should be able to finish the whole thing without running out of yarn. I love it. I love the yarn. I love the sweater. Want to see a closeup of the yarn?

Too hot for good post
too hot for good words. full sentences. coherence. just too hot.

Spun up the rest of that roving I had. Plied it so I could use up all of the BFL. Ended up with 2 plies of BFL and 1 ply of silk/merino. Color is rustier than the orangier first batch. Also has streaks of green and yellow in the silk/merino ply. Different. But not terribly different. Originally intended the orange yarn for thick winter socks, but now have enough yarn to make a sweater for Tadpole so might do that but the yarn will probably wear badly... but how nice to make a sweater for your baby with yarn you spun. Love in the yarn. Love in the stitches. Cheesy. I know. (in photo - on left, navajo plied silk/merino blend from leftovers, on top, new yarn, on bottom, old yarn)

Remember this? It's this in the fall IK. Loved the yarn. Loved the sweater. Yes, not as exciting as some of my past crazy ideas, but very wearable. Want one for myself. (photo cropped to hide evidence of sleep deprivation)
Hope started Kate Gilbert Knit Club on Ravelry. Join us. Find out about new stuff and... stuff. Patterns. Classes. Errata. You know, stuff.
