Racing

I'm making Tadpole a top-down raglan. It seemed I would have just barely enough so I've been racing to finish it thinking the faster I knit it, the slower the yarn will be used up. I know I'm not alone in my irrationality. I'm also racing to see what the yarn will look like. I just can't stop knitting this thing.

Since I have 2 yarns that aren't quite the same, I decided to work 10 rows of one, 10 rows of the other. I worked the body to a certain point, then I started the sleeves. I'm nearly done with the sleeves and I still have a decent amount of yarn left so I think I should be able to finish the whole thing without running out of yarn. I love it. I love the yarn. I love the sweater. Want to see a closeup of the yarn?

okay that has to be the cutest thing I've seen today! I also love the subtle stripes that are happening... ^__^

Tadpole's sweater is beautiful- more so in person. It was great meeting you again and geting time to hang with you in our spinning class.

I love it! I do the same thing, knit faster to try to finish before the yarn runs out too, as if little gremlins are snatching bits of it when I'm not knitting. Glad to know I'm not the only one!

I love the yarn and the sweater, it is as cute as they get!

The color is amazing. I can't get over how great it looks! Can't wait to see the FO.

Wow! I love that color!

I once tried to explain the knitting faster mentality to other people and they stared at me like I was crazy... The sweater looks beautiful! The yarn is totally yum.

Oooooh. Pretty. And I'm getting a sense of your favourite colours to work with...

Pretty, pretty, pretty. She will be the envy of all the other toddlers on the playground this fall.

I always knit faster when I think I'm going to run out of yarn too. My irrationality runs "If I knit faster, I can get it done before I run out of yarn." Great sweater.

I don't think I can get enough of that handspun. Love the orange, the red, and the pattern that showcases its awesomeness. Lucky little tadpole.

Yup, I am the same way - I think it's not only the "if I knit faster, the yarn moves slower" mentality, but the "oh jeez, is this yarn going to run out?" that causes the faster knitting. I know that when I'm in such a dilemma, I can't stop knitting until I KNOW if there's enough or not. Which usually requires finishing the item. Beautiful yarn!

Love the sweater & the beautiful yarn! BTW, my new blog is up here: http://katiemelia.blogspot.com if you want to update :)

The yarn is beautiful - such fabulous colours for a small one!

The rationale that the faster it knits, the slower the yarn is gone applies. However, I think my rationale for the same technique is: the sooner I knit it up, the sooner I'll know how much I have left, or what I need to frog, or I'd rather not put off the inevitable or whatnot.

Very adorable raglan sweater for Tadpole.

it's going to be so perfect with Tadpole's pretty complexion and dark hair! knitting with your own homespun yarn is one of the most satisfying things ever - besides being a mommy of course. :)

Yum! I love a fiery red sweater on a little girl.

Posted by: Ruth at August 11, 2007 12:54 AM

The pattern is lovely - you'll have to sell it so I can make it for my little ones!

Love the yarn. The sweater is going to be adorable!

Posted by: Tonia at August 10, 2007 10:18 PM

i do love the yarn too.

I love it! I love the color of it! I am not sure I can wear orange/red, but it sure is the color right now. The yarn is beautiful, and I will have to remember that about 10 rows of each. I guess I have heard that with handpaints, etc. before, but wonder if I would remember when it came time to sit down and knit. I am a pretty new knitter, so think I would learn the hard way. Awesome project!

Wow... How beautiful! The handspun looks absolutely gorgeous.

(When are we gonna start spinning our Indigo Moon batt?)

Oh, I love the color! I can't wait to see it finished.

Like how you're knitting both sleeves at the same time!

You have GOT to be kidding. I have almost the same exact sweater on the needles right now. I started it about 6 months ago, got it to about that point, and forgot all about it.

look

Posted by: Paula at August 10, 2007 02:27 PM

ohhhhhhhhhh... pretty.

Posted by: Steph VW at August 10, 2007 02:23 PM

It looks great. You can give it the same neckline as your new IK designs and have a mother-daughter ensemble.

Posted by: Jessica at August 10, 2007 01:56 PM

Are you going to sell the pattern?

I am making the same sweater but bottom up, it's the placket-neck sweater from LMKG. It's a pain in the ass when it comes to putting the sleeves with the body.

I am so curious about your design... and yes, that yarn is yummy! I would obsess knit to see what comes next. I love yarn like that.

Posted by: Aimee at August 10, 2007 01:09 PM

It's beautiful, Kate! What a special treat for tadpole - to have a sweater that's knit and designed by mom. Even the yarn itself is spun by mom. Lucky girl! :)

Posted by: connie at August 10, 2007 11:51 AM

Oh I love it! Maybe Tadpole would be willing to share? Of course, that would require me shrinking...

Posted by: Kim at August 10, 2007 11:47 AM

I love orange/reds together...I'm sure it's going to look fabby on your wee one....(I thought the sweater was called tadpole for a second)!

Posted by: Gudrun at August 10, 2007 11:44 AM

So cute! I love the color & the pattern looks fabulous! I'm with you on the faster I knit the less fast the yarn will be used up. At least I'm not the only one! LOL

Posted by: Preita at August 10, 2007 11:05 AM

I love the color... So what yarn is this? Wow!

Posted by: jennsquared at August 10, 2007 11:00 AM

Ohhhhh, it's gorgeous, and it's going to look great on Tadpole. Well...as I've said before, she'd look beautiful covered in mud, but this sweater is WAY better. ;)

Love that color.
