No socks for Frog
There will be no Rhinebeck sweater this year. Late shipment of the yarn paired with pattern uncertainty and lack of knitting time made sure of that, but at least Tadpole and I will have these socks.

What you can't see in this photo is that Tadpole's socks are much shorter than I would have liked them. I should have done contrasting toes and heels. Or I should have stopped my socks earlier to leave more for hers. There was no plan involved. I just stopped and used what was left for her. Now I know that 22g is not enough for little socks and I'll plan better in the future.

Frog's not at all disappointed that he's not involved in the family sock thing. He would never wear such brightly colored clothing. If you look at our closet, it's exactly divided in half. His half is black and gray with an occasional brown, red or green thrown in because I flattered him enough about how it looked on him. My half is a redpinkorangegreenbluepurplebutneveryellow explosion of color. I've offered him socks, but I refuse to knit black stockinette or ribbed socks and he won't even let me put a little teeny tiny cable in a sock for him so forget it. No socks for Frog. Tadpole on the other hand, loves (or at least doesn't mind?) the bright colors and once she saw that Mommy had the same, she didn't want to take hers off so I'm off to cast on another pair for her. It's just FO central around here lately.
PS I originally titled this post "Frog doesn't get any" until I realized how that could read...

I love the socks... so cute! Baby feet are so sweet, and even sweeter, wrapped up in some sock love. :)

Love the socks!!!!
Posted by: Katie at October 18, 2007 12:27 PM
too cute.
One can be a little mercenary about these things, these socks, because after all, you'll be wearing ours long after she's grown out of hers.
But as a madonna and child portrait, it's a killer.

oh too funny on your title change. you have such a sense of humor!
the socks/feet pics are adorable.

Hmmm... I can see why the title needed adjusting! LOL!! Great sox! Cool colors! My hubby would never wear that color either... Tadpole's are so cute!!

So cute! When I had tiny feet to knit for I was not a socknitter. Such an opportunity lost. Maybe I'll have grandkids someday. In the meantime maybe I'll cast on another pair for me...
No cables? Sheesh. Doesn't he know from reading 60s vintage patterns that cables are as manly as it gets, knitting-wise?
Posted by: Lucia at October 11, 2007 05:21 PM
What cuteness!

Oh dear God. That is too cute for words.

Aw, little tadpole feet. Sweet.
I always say my husband likes any color as long as it's gray.
Posted by: Jessica at October 10, 2007 07:16 PM
My husband also only likes boring things. I show him a sweater with just one teeny-tiny embellishment like a cable or stripe of color and he says he likes it but then adds "What's that?" in regards to the teeny-tiny embellishment. I am sorry, but I cannot physically make a plain stockinette sweater or plain 2x2 rib socks using grey or black yarn. Nope. Sorry. Just won't happen. I've tried...and gotten about halfway and then frogged and used the yarn for something else. True confession. Glad to know I'm not the only one...

Those mommy-daughter socks are the cutest!

HA! and i love the sock pics - adorable!

Wait a minute there....I thought I was your official foot model! Have I lost my job to (dare I say it) cuter feet?
Posted by: jenny at October 10, 2007 12:10 AM
Those are the cutest pictures ever!

Precious. Absolutely precious. AND the Christmas stocking in the new Interweave Holiday gifts is spectacular--when did you work on THAT one--endless nights locked in the bathroom???
Cheers, Barbie O.

Okay, so now I'm ready to hop in the car and drive 6 hours to Montreal to see those little feet in person! The socks are beautiful on both of you; I'm so proud.

As a thank you for all the help they gave us after the WoolyBabe was born, I offered to make my parents socks. I opened the (overflowing) Bin O'Sock Yarn and gave them free rein ... and my dad chose black. Black stockinette.
He really was a tremendous help. But next time I'll try to sneak some grey Trekking past him.

When my boyfriend picked out yarn for his socks he said (direct quote here), "I like this yarn. It looks like clown vomit."
Ah, such a gentleman.

Love the mommy daughter socks!! And the original title of the post!
Posted by: Di at October 9, 2007 05:41 PM
Tadpole won't mind that her socks are shorter.
Frog should know better. He is so silly.

So cute! My husband has only 2 pairs of handknit socks -- one in charcoal gray rib, and one in deep green rib. It was all I could do to finish the gray ones without throwing them in the corner ...
Posted by: Danielle at October 9, 2007 02:58 PM
Oh they are so adorable, I can't wait to have this baby so I can make little socks!
Posted by: KeanaLee at October 9, 2007 02:54 PM
Ah, your posts always make me laugh outloud! So cute. I never comment, but I so enjoy your sense of humour and I don't know, just something in the way you phrase things always makes me smile and laugh with the familiarity of it.

That second picture is so adorable. Love it. My husband only wanted a black ribbed watch cap and it took me years to knit it.
Posted by: Kathy at October 9, 2007 01:47 PM
Ah, Kate, LOL!! Knitting for little = love. Especially when they don't want to take them off. Made socks for L4 a couple of weeks ago. When I tried the first sock on for fit she wouldn't take it off, wore it the entire day, just the one. :)

That yarn is great! The second photo is so adorable! Tiny feet look so cute in socks!
Posted by: Marlena at October 9, 2007 12:08 PM
Ok, that rocks on so many levels...And I hear you on the sweater front..waiting on a yarn shipment myself..eep!

How sweet. Can you recommend a good sock pattern for children? I intend to knit socks for my 4 granddaughters for Christmas - they're all between 2 and 6 years. I'm having problems finding patterns for small feet.
Happy Thanksgiving,

I cannot stand it. That is one of the cutest things I've ever seen.
Posted by: regina at October 9, 2007 10:36 AM
C used to be the same way with the socks, but then I just started making them in different colors for him and he's come around. I like to break up the ribbing if possible, but haven't tried adding in cables for fear of rejection :)

What sweet little feet with matching socks matching Moms.
Posted by: Carole at October 9, 2007 09:08 AM
Oh gosh, so so cute. Even if she has little anklets instead of full blown socks, it doesn't matter because you look so cute together.
Boys, they can be so persnickety. hehe

I love the matching socks. So cute.

I love the socks! I couldn't tell they weren't long enough for Tadpole, either. How sweet!
I don't knit anything for my husband because he wouldn't wear it -- I'm there with you.
Posted by: Kelley at October 9, 2007 06:42 AM
I love the matching socks! The colourway you used looks great. I'm getting inspired to get back into knitting socks again. After I moved to Korea (will be here for a year), I haven't knit any...and haven't knit any for a little before the flight over either. It's about time I cast on I think!
Posted by: Shelley at October 9, 2007 12:49 AM
Hahaha... your P.S. cracked me up!
The mama/daughter feet shots are darling.
Posted by: Mary-Heather at October 9, 2007 12:38 AM
Soooo sweet.
And a very funny PS.
Only 4 more increase rows in the yoke, then I'll try it on.
Posted by: Shelagh at October 8, 2007 11:20 PM
Make Aunt Jenny a matching pair too! By the way, that 1st picture is the effing cutest thing I've ever seen.
Posted by: jenny at October 8, 2007 11:01 PM
Hee hee. I liked your PS. And...the socks are really sweet. I agree about not knitting st socks. Blah! Hubby is getting what I knit him. Period.

I can attest to the French husband not wearing the colours thing...and that's so hilarious about the red only because you flattered him. Same thing for my husband. He's got one red sweater. I told him he looked hot in it and he wore it nonstop for a week.
Posted by: Lee Ann at October 8, 2007 09:56 PM
Isn't your husband French? My husband is Italian and when I first met him, he was wearing pink t-shirts and red jeans and carried a hot pink and yellow Invicta backpack. I have him wearing much more muted colors these days.
