They're done! They're here and I'm not ashamed to say that I love them love them love them. Picot, Estonian braid, two color knitting. All sorts of fun in one (two really) neat package. And check out the "surprise":

Do you see it? Is this better?

Now does the name make sense?

Wintergreen

Wintergreen Mittens

Mittens are a great way to experiment with new techniques. The leaf motif is created by combining twisted stitches and two-color knitting. These mittens will keep your hands toasty until the leaves come back. In sizes: 8 (8 1/4, 8 1/2, 9, 9 1/4, 9 1/2) in (20.3 [21, 21.6, 22.9, 23.5, 24.1] cm) around.

If you were interested in these mittens,

find a worsted weight yarn and swatch, they should be ready in a couple days.
Upddated to add you'll need 100g per color of worsted weight yarn and your gauge depends on the size you want. For a 8 (8 1/4, 8 1/2, 9) in (20.3 [21, 21.6, 22.9] cm) mitten you'll want a stitch gauge of 29 (28, 27, 26)=4 in/10cm

"The Leafy Thing"

The leafy thing is a mitten. I'm going to have the pattern available here pretty soon. Look.

I'm also working on another mitten. It has no cuff yet. I just started it above the cuff. And there are surprises on the other side, but I want to fix them up a little bit before showing you. I was messing around with embroidering a little but I'm not nuts about it. It actually looks nicer in person though.

Random

1. Jenny and Nicole of Stash and Burn are what I listen to every Friday morning while I am knitting and working. They interviewed me and it's up. I didn't have any alcohol in the house but I still managed to listen to it. Just barely.

2. Spinning you haven't seen yet

3. Knitting you haven't seen yet

Winter is close, so the photo is dark.

4. I took a class with Fiona Ellis a couple of weeks ago. She was awesome and I had a blast.

5. If anyone calls me again to make an appointment with Doctor Schlepchick? Slapstick? Flapjack? Stepkickballchange? I am going to go ballistic. And no, Michael doesn't live here.

6. Tadpole is asleep and it's very very quiet in the house right now. I LOVE IT! I am going to close my computer, turn off the phone and finish a mitten. See ya.

Eyes on the prize

I'm out of control. Check out the numbers.

Patterns I'm writing:
1. gray sweater
2. mitten
3. raglan
4. a project I've been working on alternately redoing and avoiding for literally years

Projects I'm actively knitting:
5. the gray sweater
6. handspun socks
7. socks for Tadpole

Projects I haven't touched recently:
8. cashmere socks that I started at Rhinebeck and want to redo
9. pinwheel blanket
10. knee highs
11. orange Marina Piccolas
12. a bunny
13. trekking socks
14. fair isle socks
15, 16. I have 2 baby gifts I have to knit and think about constantly but don't get anywhere with.
... I have maybe 2 other pairs of socks that were started but need to be ripped so I'm not counting them

17-39. And I have 23 projects that I want to design and work on and I think about them a lot because they're always more appealing than what I'm doing... and that number's only so low because I haven't gone through my sketchbooks lately.

And this doesn't count spinning. I have 2 spinning projects going.

I'm not getting anything done. I'm making up some rules so I can start to.

  • I'm not allowed to start any new projects no matter how fun or brilliant or interesting or appealing.

  • The handspun socks are only to be knit on the bus or in other situations when I need mindless, quick knitting

  • Friday mornings are strict working time (I pretty much do this already)

  • Read my lips - no new spinning

  • I must finish 2 of the patterns I'm writing before starting a new one

  • I'm going to set a deadline and try to stick to it

  • I can't touch the box of washed locks that Cheryl sent me before these two patterns are done

Now, what is a reasonable deadline and how am I going to stick to it? I suppose I should tell you my deadline so I'm risking public humiliation by missing it... help.

One of the prizes so I can play with my new hand cards
