"The Leafy Thing"
The leafy thing is a mitten. I'm going to have the pattern available here pretty soon. Look.

I'm also working on another mitten. It has no cuff yet. I just started it above the cuff. And there are surprises on the other side, but I want to fix them up a little bit before showing you. I was messing around with embroidering a little but I'm not nuts about it. It actually looks nicer in person though.

I like the leafiness of it all. It really is the time of year for mittens.

Kate,
I know you were just on a podcast, but did you know that the clapotis was in a song on another podcast? It's great and the riff has been stuck in my head since I heard it. It's on Jacey's podcast, insubordiknit -- http://insubordiknit.com/podcast/ , episode 4, about 10 minutes in. Listen!

That green against the gray reminds me of the first new leaves of spring. Very good color choice. I hope the pattern comes out in time for us all to knit and wear them in anticipation of spring.

Those are some most lovely mittens. I'm interested to see what you decide to do with the cuffs on the flowery ones.

I love both! One for when I feel girlie and one for when I feel like I live in Stars Hollow. How you find the time to be creative and see through your creations is beyond me! Thanks for sharing ;)

I am in the mood to make mittens and I want to try them both. The first one for sure but the second one I'm completely intimidated by FI.
When will the pattern go up?! :)

Lovely Leafy! Must make! Oh no - I haven't finished up your last mitten pattern yet. Don't care - I'm making Leafy as soon as the pattern's up. We're New Englandites and mittens are always useful. Thank you, thank you!

Just like everybody else, I love the leafy mittens, and the motif on the blue ones is really pretty too. I have a feeling I'll be making more mittens than I need this year...

wow! both styles look great! i love the touch of embroidery on the second one. and what better inspiration than a chill in the air and a holiday vacation?

oooh, i love those mittens, especially the leafy one. i don't wear mittens or do color work but i would make one as a sculpture (i DO believe in knitting as sculpture, and have many examples lying about the place)

Kate, I LOVE the leaf mittens! When I saw your sneak peak in your other post I was excited to see what it was. Looking forward to the pattern!

Sorry, I'll be boring and concur with everyone else - gorgeous mittens, both of them! I like the spare leaf details in the first mitten. It's very modern and graphic. And I love the intarsia flowers and stems in the second. I think the embroidery is a nice touch. It reminds me of Kristen Nichol's work with felted bags. You've been busy! :)

vedy pretty.
so, i guess i should be on the lookout for these soon...?

the leafy mittens are ridiculously beautiful. argh. does this mean i have to start doing colourwork?
Posted by: kris at November 16, 2007 01:15 PM
pretty, pretty patterns on both! i love both the leaves and the flowers. don't especially need mittens in dallas (although it finally got cold yesterday!), but could use the patterns on other things, right? :)

Posted by: Kathy at November 16, 2007 11:42 AM
YAY they're so pretty! And the blue ones with the flowers are adorable too! Dang, I need to move to Alaska so I am justified in having a mitten wardrobe.

Beautiful mittens!

He lllll oooo leafy thing. I love you. Will you marry me?
And thanks for the bday wishes. Clearly it wasn't intentional, but bringing leafy into the world feels like a great bday present.

O my goodness...those leafy mittens are adorable. I want them so bad. But no pressure. =) Thanks for keeping up the creativity etc. (I'm a Sunrise Circle fan...love mine, think you are so awesome!)

I can't wait for the pattern for the leaf mittens! they're so beautiful. How are you (aside from incredibly busy, i mean)?
Posted by: regina at November 16, 2007 10:12 AM
Hahaha, LOVE "the leafy thing." My hands have been getting cold at work, so mittens and the like have been on my mind lately!
Posted by: Vicki at November 16, 2007 10:03 AM
Wow!! I love the leaf ones! They look so rustic and warm. I am so in a mitten phase although I live in california and have very limited use for them.
Can't wait to see the pattern.
