not too late
This year I'm not doing much for Christmas. My mom and sister are in charge of it all. Because of Frog's backache a couple weekends ago, we didn't even get a tree and now it's so late that we're not going to bother. I'm not making cookies. I haven't ordered cards yet. Note to self: do that yesterday, or at least tonight. I am doing a teeny tiny bit of Christmas knitting though and occasionally have fantasies of making something for everyone. It ain't gonna happen. But yesterday, while Tadpole napped, I managed to knit her one Lise sock. She wanted to put it on as soon as she found it. She did not want to sit still for three seconds though so I could get a decent shot of it.

It was nearly a three hour nap ('tis the season for miracles after all), but I also fought with a shipping company and shopped for shoes online and I still manage to knit all of the way from the top to the toe decreases (we'll ignore that I made them too small for her so they aren't pointing as much as they should and that I messsed up the striping). It made me think that all of my Christmas knitting dreams could come true! Who knows. Maybe I'll cast on for something else tonight at work. Today I opted for napping instead of knitting so maybe I shouldn't be so optimistic.

Tadpole and I made cinnamon ornaments today. A couple have already fallen victim to "walking" which then meant breaking, but oh well. They smell good. The house smells good. It killed about an hour this morning. I wish I had more time to be crafty. I hope Tadpole will be crafty... Time to make dinner.

What recipe did you use for cinnamon ornaments? The last one I used was a total flop! LOVE the new mittens pattern.

The cinnamon ornaments look so rustic and must smell great! Tadpole looks like a little elf in that pic. Wishing your sweet family all the best this Christmas! xo

Look how excited she was about one pointy sock! :) She has that crafty thrill already! I do remember many a fight trying to teach my daughter to sew and her teaching me to knit, but now it is all good and lots of times we still need to bounce creative ideas off each other or the project just doesn't feel right...

She looks so cute with her little sock on! I want to make some of those for my friends who are having babies in the spring.
You can join my Scrooge-y Christmas: the one and only thing I made was peppermint bark. And half of the Bird in Hand mittens!

No stress, Kate. The beauty of having little ones is that such simple things as one pretty little sock and some time spent making cinnamon ornaments with mom are all they really need and want. Mine don't really let me get away with that anymore!

Awwww, it's so sweet that Tadpole is so in love with your knits. And I'm sure she'll be crafty. How could she not be, exposed to as much high quality crafting goodness as she is?
Mmmmm, cinnamon cookies. I bet that smells good! Happy Holidays, Kate! :)

Don't stress. We have the tree in the stand but it's not decorated yet. I still don't have the "santa gift" for my son, nor am I done shopping. Nothing is wrapped. Once again the Christmas cookie cutters will go unused and there will be no baking.
And it won't matter a wit when we're all together on Christmas enjoying the day. (Well, only if I get that gift for Alexander).
Have fun with a napping Tadpole.

I second "The Feminist Mafia's" comment!! Not a chance she won't be crafty. You and Frog's genes are going to make her famous for someething creative!!

Glad to know I'm not the only one who hasn't put up a tree yet. We are still in discussions about if we should bother or not!

Girl, with her genes, I don't think she'll have a choice about being crafty. Tis a done deal, me thinks.
Now go drink a glass of wine or somethin' and de-stress a wee bit. k?

Oh, I think your version of Christmas sounds just darling. Enjoy Tadpole while you have her. I like to remind myself of the Little House In The Big Woods' Christmas - not the part where they go to Grandmother's house to see relatives, but the part on their own, with the homemade gifts of modest scope. I like that sort of Christmas best.

Time to be crafty...yeah, I share that desire with you. I honestly don't know how people find the time to create all that they do. I barely get any knitting done these days, and I can't remember the last time i touched my wheel.
Tadpole somehow keeps getting cuter every time I see a new photo of her. Happy Christmas, friend.
