and woosh goes May

I've had a pretty steady stream of visitors for over a month now. My in-laws are the current visitors and they'll be here right up until I go to TNNA Anyone else going? Say hi! I might be wearing the sweater from my last post... which you couldn't see but... I guess the fact that I have visitors isn't terribly interesting... but it does offer an explanation as to why I've disappeared. Tadpole's not napping very often anymore either so the day just zooms (or sometimes crawls) by until I crash into bed.

Between visitors, I've managed to find a little bit of spinning time.

This is Spunky Eclectic Mud Season (I think). I'm a member of the fiber club now thanks to a generous friend. It's awesome and because the fiber keeps piling up, I really try to spin at least once in a while. I spun up half of it one Friday night. I should do the same with the other half. I really need some more bobbins but I don't dare spend the money on them for some reason... nor do I necessarily stick to one project until it's done which is why I have cakes of singles sitting around.

Anyway, hello to you all! I miss you. Say hi if you like.

Hi! Nice to hear from you.

Hello, Kate! Had to finally de-lurk to say how pretty your handspun looks. I can't believe you haven't been spinning long! Makes me want to learn to spin... (sigh) maybe someday. My days are also full of little ones (10, 7, and 4) and we homeschool. So much fiber, so little time... Anyway, love your designs. Hope you have a great week!

The mud season looks great - I need to get to mine! I'm back from Italy and work is a little less frantic than before, so we should definitely touch base if you have time for a chat - I want to hear all of the interesting goings on!

Hi, hi! Welcome back! I've missed you. I don't know if you remember- that email you sent me, in that dark time (goodness, how cryptic) but it meant the world to me, and I'm always delighted to see a post from you. :)

Posted by: Elspeth at May 30, 2008 08:33 PM

hi! still checking in!

Posted by: nat at May 30, 2008 06:04 PM

hi! we miss you too. but as i imagine many of us are also moms, we totally understand how one day melds into the blur of another!

hi! pretty cake of pretty colors. i know extra bobbins are worth it, but i feel that same strange reluctance.

i'll be at tnna, where i'm sure i'll be shy and just admire you from afar.

Posted by: meowgirl at May 28, 2008 05:52 PM

Ha, my boyfriend still naps on non-work days! I'm wondering if his SAHM encouraged this behavior to get a little sanity time? I almost got sucked into spinning looking at this post... Soooo pretty!

Posted by: Amy in StL at May 28, 2008 03:39 PM

Hey, that's what I'm spinning right now too! Except it is taking me waaaaaay longer. Yours is looking lovely. Good luck finding more time to spin!

Posted by: Katie at May 27, 2008 09:53 PM

hi! glad to hear from you

Posted by: ashley at May 27, 2008 05:40 PM

i'll be at tnna...come by the booth and say hi!!!

Posted by: amanda @ lorna's laces at May 27, 2008 05:37 PM

Lovely! I saw spunky eclectic at the MA sheep & wool and couldn't remember where I'd read about it. Perhaps here!

Posted by: Jennifer at May 27, 2008 04:46 PM

Oh no - not napping? Torture! Mine hate nap time but it's so important to the preservation of my sanity. Lovely spinning - your singles look heavy enough to knit with - so lovely! I've finally decided that I'll have to knit my Dream Clapotis with handspun. I just got a drum carder so I can make my own silk blend. Oooooohhhh yeah. :)

Posted by: Laura at May 27, 2008 01:44 PM

I sometimes wind my singles off onto toilet paper tubes. I'd love more bobbins, but they're so expensive. I can never justify it.

Posted by: Cheryl at May 27, 2008 11:54 AM

Hey there! I also just have the four bobbins --nothing wrong with cakes hanging around! :-)

Posted by: Kathy at May 27, 2008 10:23 AM

Hi! Miss you too!

Posted by: cari at May 27, 2008 02:38 AM

konnichiwa! hope you are enjoying the visitors. :)

Posted by: molly! at May 27, 2008 01:12 AM

ugh, those years between no-nap and the beginning of school. Your spinning is lovely.

Posted by: Hope at May 26, 2008 11:28 PM

Hi! I'll be away most of June -- want to hang out in July? (Sigh!)

Posted by: alison at May 26, 2008 10:26 PM

Those are really lovely singles--I bet they'll be stunning plied.

Posted by: Anne at May 26, 2008 09:57 PM

Hi :) Your singles are beautiful. I'd leave that cake hanging around too!

Posted by: Danielle at May 26, 2008 09:35 PM

I am ALMOST finished with my Mud season....might ply it up today! It's a lovely colourway isn't it.

Posted by: Donyale Grant at May 26, 2008 08:17 PM

Yeah, having kids does that to your time. The yarn is beautiful.

Here's something quite random, but hey, maybe you'll think it's interesting. My son is obsessed with animals and their diets/habits right now. As I was prattling away at my patient husband about knitting, I said, "Hey, I think Kate Gilbert should write a knitting book!" to which my son responded "What do Kate Gilberts eat?"

Okay, very mommy of me, but I laughed...

Posted by: Brynne at May 26, 2008 07:32 PM

Very nice yarn. It's terribly yummy. Even as singles. Maybe I just need to leave work and finally eat dinner but I could really go for a couple of yarn cakes right about now.

Posted by: Sarah at May 26, 2008 07:22 PM

Oh it's so nice to see someone else in the same stage of parenting as me doing such lovely spinning! I am envious of the gift from your generous friend...I'd love to be part of a fibre club but it's not in the budget for now.... Lovely to see you back!

Posted by: Rebecca at May 26, 2008 06:11 PM

Don't beat yourself up! Motherhood is a big job and it sounds like you're very devoted. Good for you and great for Tadpole!

Posted by: Lety at May 26, 2008 04:14 PM

Lovely yarn! Nice to see you again!

Posted by: Nell at May 26, 2008 02:34 PM

Beautiful yarn - the colors are lovely. I know how you feel about the naps (or lack thereof). My little girl is 3.5 years old and unless she gets a lot of exercise in the morning, the nap is a battle. I debate letting her give up the nap, but she is so much more pleasant to be around when she's had some sleep during the day that I persevere.

Hi! Love that Spunky fiber. Yum. May just flew away from me, too. Wasn't it just Maryland Sheep and Wool time?

Posted by: Tasha at May 26, 2008 02:13 PM

Yay, you're back! Pretty fiber and singles! I need to spin more than I do- tons of fiber piling up into a cloud above my head. Looking forward to your posting your new sweater after TNNA.

Posted by: Manise at May 26, 2008 01:03 PM

Hi! I have a friend who has joined the Spunky Eclectic club. She loves her fibre. I'm still learning how to use a drop spindle.

Hi!

Posted by: Andrea (noricum) at May 26, 2008 11:28 AM

so crazy because I was just thinking about you on my train ride home today...can we skype sometime??

Posted by: sarah at May 26, 2008 11:14 AM

Well, nice spinning - I have taken a class at Ariadne and can't say I have been practicing much. And without practice, you can't really get the hang of it.. Oh well! I have put my other class (two socks on a circular) to good use though: one pair in Regia Fasset from stash : DONE !

Posted by: SamLaTricoteuse at May 26, 2008 11:07 AM

Hey Kate! The spinning is really pretty, love the colors. I know what you mean about having cakes of singles lying around. :)
